You can buy shipment with real money but that gives you only cash, vanity (cosmetic) and tokens. All these shipments can be earned by playing too and hardly a grind since you are rewarded with a lot of in-game currency for every race

Seems at odds with what the reviews stated.

Also, LoL, getting a mediocre rating from IGN. Got to be pretty shonky for that bad a score.

Um, you can. Random speed cards are given as an additional reward. You can go to tune-in shop and upgrade whatever you want.

Thank you for clearing it up. I'm not sure, why IGN review criticized speed cards that much then. Would you recommend buying this game at launch? Or should I wait for a sale?

I recently bought PS4. As I'm a fan NFS Underground 2 and Most Wanted, I was pretty excited for this one. I wanted it to be good so bad. I guess I'm gonna go through some more reviews in the coming days and see how it goes.

^ You can ease off on the swear words as well.

Also, just in general going forward if anyone is posting an excerpt, take a moment and please attribute it /source it appropriately. Helps the community, prevents misquotes. Cheers!

Which is what is odd. Not sure what they expect. You are already rewarded so much and can literally upgrade your car to a max in a matter of hours.

Well, the game is listed for $35 for Black Friday. So you might want to wait till then.

Another game f**ked by EA MT shite.

Of course Joe will come and defend it. Cuz it's EA.

What he doesn't understand is, even if it's fair now (which it isn't as per reviews), there is no guarantee they'll not change the numbers later on.

An extract of the review I posted on the previous page clearly says that game is very grindy without real world money.

Perhaps you should play first and then talk?

Guess people these days want to unlock a car after every race. ecOC9xa.png What's next? CREW is grind too. Horizon as well. But oh, noes, NFS should have everything for cheap. Give me Agera for 1000 and not for a 1 million.

I think It's from the best buy ad. We won't be able to take benifit of it tho, assuming you don't live in the US.

Nonetheless, don't buy anything at full price now. There are huge sales on us psn towards the end of the year.

Thank for the advice, man. I appreciate it

Look, you bashed shadow of war for loot boxes cuz it's not fine for a SP game. But now, it's all fine. I feel there is no place for timers and loot boxes in a racing game. It doesn't help that this game was hailed as the game which'll bring the series back on track.

oh how I wish this was true :(

And I don't care if you or anyone buys or not. I'm just stating what I played. You are free to make your decision.

If you don't want to me keep up with the games, fine, I won't bother posting here. Peace out. IYdl2qk.png

Relax mate. people do get excited while discussing about games which includes you, me and many other people. No need to take it at heart and of course you are entitled to your opinion.

I will listen to anyone's advice here except Zodka  because sometimes logic goes out of the window with that guy.

Also, you are saying that everything unlocks in reasonable time while every reviewer out there says otherwise. I assume you played the trial, so it could very well be that the grind increases as you move forward. So disappointed with how this game turned out. Had high hopes with this.:(

Tell that to other racing games. Plus, there is an online part too; unlike Shadow of War which is completely SP game and online is thrown for namesake. On top of that, even locks you out from true ending just to push the loot boxes.

None of these affects NFS. It's a racing game. There are races and online too. You are rewarded after every race.

How is that a grind? Do you want to unlock everything in 10 hours? All previous NFS games had good grind.

CREW took me almost 100 hours to get most of the stuff and not a single moment it felt like grinding. Neither did Forza or previous NFS games. It's a racing game. I don't want to unlock everything straight away.

Grinding is acceptable to some extent if done right but some reviewers are saying you have to keep replaying the old races and events to progress through the story. Is that true ?

Every other available review:

  • Need For Speed Payback doesn’t really set the genre alight, but it’s the closest we’re likely to get to a new Burnout game. It’s fun to play; mixing various racing events with the explosive set pieces of its proper story missions, while providing a nice backdrop for free-roaming throughout Fortune Valley. The story is nonsense, but when has it ever not been? Just buckle up and enjoy the ride, because Need For Speed is well and truly back.
  • Need for Speed Payback is an intense, unbridled and fun title. It has everything you can ask for a proposal of your style. Dressed with an interesting story and with an overflowing cast of charisma they achieve, without too much pretension, the not always simple purpose of entertaining.
  • The cinematographic touch of the main story. Characters full of charisma. Infinity of tests and driving challenges. Epic persecutions.
  • Need for Speed Payback is a fine game with far more organ music than expected of a 2017 release. Those of you who don’t enjoy it will not be able to complain about poor gameplay mechanics, but your concerns with other parts of the game would be valid.
  • What makes me happy is that the core elements of Payback are well polished. The cars are fun to drive, the events change enough to avoid being boring, roads are crafted with great drifts in mind, and the online racing brings people together for a good time. Payback is certainly not without its problems, but there are more pros then there are cons in this package. If you’re on the fence about this one, you can calm down and go buy it already. I don’t think anyone is going to name it game of the year, but you won’t regret adding it to your library.
  • Need for Speed Payback is the return of the franchise in style after the restart of 2015. We will put ourselves in the shoes of three young protagonists to live a great story in which Ghost Games has not left any loose ends, becoming one of the referents of the arcade genre that promises to give many hours to all players who want to give it a try. This title has spectacular graphics, a feeling of speed very well achieved and a gameplay that adapts to all types of players, being able to adjust the difficulty at each moment of our adventure.
  • Need for Speed Payback feels like the natural evolution of the series, and that’s a good thing considering the game ends with a great tease for a potential sequel. While I finished the story in around 15 hours, it’s worth noting that there are a ton of side events and collectibles that I failed to collect in that time. I could see myself easily doubling my time within Payback, and do so with a smile on my face the entire time.
  • EA and Ghost Games set out to make the quintessential Need for Speed by bringing in aspects that worked in the past and has mostly succeeded. The unnecessary narrative ultimately holds the game back, but it’s a blast once the world is made available to the player. The off-road racing is addicting and the search for Derelicts could remain a mainstay with the franchise moving forward. This is much less of a CAR-PG than the previous game, as players will be able to build a great library of cars much quicker. Add to this an excellent livery editor and community features, and the core elements of Need for Speed Payback will keep fans playing for quite a while.
  • Need for Speed Payback successfully returns to its Fast and Furious roots with aplomb, but a focus on the grind and a beautiful but empty world means it ultimately falls short of greatness.

Yeah, let's focus on MTs though.
