  • Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte confirmed Italy will ease lockdown measures from May 4, but schools won’t open until September and we’re unlikely to see crowds in stadiums until January 2021.
  • They were the first European country to go into lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the first cases springing up on February 20, and over 26,000 people have now died.
  • A partial lockdown was ordered in several northern regions affected, then extended to the entire country from March 10.
  • The latest Government decree will expire on May 4 and that is the date when measures will be eased, including around sport and training.

Though those things are quite bad as well,  but i doubt humanity has faced a phase of non-activity or lock down or whatever you wanna call it on such a massive scale for quite a while, you don't know how this period will be read as in human history ,maybe it will be worse than those events ?? no one knows,we are still going through this,so making an assumption just now would be foolish.

The lethality of the corona is much lower than the Black Death percentage wise.
Furthermore there is better communication and health technology now than in those times so more people aware of the prevention measures and recovered from the virus.

In every country there are always going to be few bad eggs.

More or less it’s safe to say that count only registers for individual who got specifically admitted, tested & treated for covid only

This is what is being done wrong.

Even a person who dies in a car accident, should be tested for Covid, in order to help authorities/family handle  the dead body properly. Especially in the regions where positive rate is more than 10%

The increase in stats is on top of your average for these months for last 5 years. But that baseline is already lower thanks to lockdown, so not only is it worse than official numbers but also worse in general. It might sound all doom and gloom but if people knew the real numbers maybe they won't start pushing for reopening so soon.

The problem with locking down/re-opening is - Soon enough tons of people will go into poverty because they can't work. Employers can't support people indefinitely because they themselves are becoming more poor by the day and still have their own families to feed. This is especially true for SMEs. Govt. is also not having much income, since liquor income and tourism income is completely stopped and petrol/diesel tax income and other tax income has reduced drastically. Continue Lockdown long enough, and soon enough for many people the choice will be - either die of hunger with certainty and torture or take a chance to die of sickness (which has a far lower probability - Since Hunger and Thirst has a 100% fatality rate, that too after torture unlike COVID19). That is not the situation people should ever come to. Like it or not, economy is important too. And I'm not even taking mental torture into account, since most humans are not built to be in house arrest. We should be glad that we will not come to this situation anytime soon, but a lot of people (In the millions) will soon enough.

Govt. can extend lockdown a little bit. But it's still a pause button, not a solution. The time of lockdown is to build up facilities enough so that once it's lifted, hospitals can take in all the sick people, including the newly affected ones. Hopefully, the vaccine comes soon, so life can go back to mormal. But from the news I'm seeing, most probably the first major vaccines will be ready by September. Don't think Govt. can maintain lockdown that long and expect people to co-operate.

Sure, but lethality of a virus in modern times is not just about mortality but about how deeply it effects the economy and underlying social effects. Easy transmission permits this disease to cause unprecedented changes in our lifestyle and business activity ,likes of which we haven't seen in a long long time.

Wait a sec, what the *bleep* is up with all these people going around, with signs and flags and stuff? Are Americans not looking at their own numbers?

They've gotta be at a million by now.

That’s correct.

Anything above the baseline + 10-20% of baseline can be accounted for total Covid deaths.
They should tell us the numbers.

Holy sh*t confederate flags, because waving normal national flag wasn't fascist enough

Everyone seems to wave the flag there just to spin whatever their "cause" is to be the "patriotic" and AMERICAN thing, i.e virtue signalling.
