Details on Anthem Next are hazy, but among other things, the game’s developers plan to overhaul the loot, the quests, the social aspects of the game, the difficulty, the progression system, and the world map. One person on the project said they’re planning to change the game’s entire structure. Right now, the entire world of Anthem is set on a single contiguous map; separating the map into segments would allow developers to tweak and play around with those segments without worrying that they might create bugs and glitches all across the world. “We’re also looking at breaking up the need to go back to [Fort Tarsis] after every mission,” said the person, “and what a mission technically is. That was always a weird disconnect. [We’re] trying to integrate the disparate parts of the game together.”.

So, basically everything except the flight mechanics. Nice. Maybe. Hypothetically. Unless of course, BioWare totally screws us over with grandiose promises and delivers a game that is the opposite of 'playable'. They wouldn't do that to their customers, would they?

There are so many things that are wrong/broken and needs to be completely re-done. On top of that, this needs to be F2P to get people even try it. It is already in the vault, so I don't see it getting $60 again nor seeing anyone paying for it.

I played for around 120 hours before uninstalling as the game had nothing to offer nor had any updates or content to keep the players busy. The world is empty and had 0 variety or maps to explore.

I don't see BioWare turning this around given their interaction with the community and dev streams where they couldn't keep themselves together. EA is wasting time and resources on this.

WF and Destiny are streets ahead and both are free to play with tonne of stuff to do. Heck, even their campaigns are better than Anthem's campaign. That's how bad BioWare is currently. Can't even write a decent story or use the villain for more than 10 minutes.

If FF 14 can be fixed, then nothing is impossible.

It needs a strong will though. With FF14 Square Enix apologised, completely withdrew the game from the marker, reworked it from the ground up and re-launched it to be one of the best MMOs. Do you see EA doing that? I don''t actually

Final Fantasy has huge fan and following base which helps too. Anthem has nothing. Not even devs respond to suggestions/comments anymore.

The game is so dead and abandoned that even in-game cosmetic store isn't refreshed anymore.

They should make it F2P. Put it on Steam. Rework gear and loot system. Add some content (not shite like Cataclysm but actual content). Get back to weekly/bi-weekly dev posts/streams. One of the most important thing with online games is keeping up with the community.

Too much to turn it around and I would rather see them working on DA4/ME game instead.

Final Fantasy Single Player games are what have the massive following. WoW pretty much killed the MMO market, so FF11 - the only other FF MMO was not that successful. And after the disastrous launch of FF 14 it also had nothing.

Now this is the part that says the dev won't do much. Only when EA/Bioware has the interest will they be able to make it successful.

Lol wut!. Ff11 made more money for square than some of their SP FF titles combined. That is the reason why they doubled down on ff14 despite the absolute disastrous launch.

Final Fantasy XI is the most profitable in the franchise

Thanks for the info. Seems I was mistaken. It was a 2002 title it seems, so it was profitable before the WoW MMO purge of 2004-05

Future of Anthem

Quote

Over the coming months we will be focusing on a longer-term redesign of the experience, specifically working to reinvent the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges and progression with meaningful rewards – while preserving the fun of flying and fighting in a vast science-fantasy setting.  And to do that properly we’ll be doing something we’d like to have done more of the first time around – giving a focused team the time to test and iterate, focusing on gameplay first.

In the meantime, we will continue to run the current version of Anthem, but move away from full seasons as the team works towards the future of Anthem. We’ll keep the game going with events, store refreshes, and revisiting past seasonal and cataclysm content – starting with our anniversary towards the end of the month.

Creating new worlds is central to our studio mission, but it’s not easy.  Sometimes we get it right, sometimes we miss.  What keeps us going is the support from players like you.  Your feedback gives us guidance on how we can improve, and your passion inspires us with the courage to create.   I look forward to working together with your involvement and feedback towards the best possible future for Anthem.

Let's see if they can turn it around like every other online game.

Sony to pay $3.5 million penalty for misrepresenting PlayStation gamers’ rights

Quote

The Federal Court has ordered Sony Interactive Entertainment Network Europe Limited (Sony Europe) to pay $3.5 million in penalties for making false and misleading representations on its website and in dealings with Australian consumers about their Australian Consumer Law (ACL) rights.

Sony Europe made misleading representations to four consumers who believed they had purchased faulty PlayStation games. This occurred when Sony’s customer service representatives told them over the phone Sony Europe was not required to refund the game once it had been downloaded, or if 14 days had passed since it was purchased.

“Consumer guarantee rights do not expire after a digital product has been downloaded and certainly do not disappear after 14 days or any other arbitrary date claimed by a game store or developer,” ACCC Chair Rod Sims said.

The Court also declared Sony Europe breached the ACL by telling one of the four consumers it did not have to provide a refund unless the game developer authorised it, and by telling a fifth consumer that Sony Europe could provide a refund using virtual PlayStation currency instead of money.

“What Sony told these consumers was false and does not reflect the consumer guarantee rights afforded to Australian consumers under the Australian Consumer Law,” Mr Sims said.

“Consumers can obtain a repair, replacement or refund directly for products with a major fault from sellers and cannot simply be sent to a product developer.”

“Refunds under the consumer guarantees must also be given in cash or money transfer if the consumer originally paid in one of those ways, unless the consumer chooses to receive store credit,” Mr Sims said.

Between October 2017 and May 2019, Sony Europe’s Terms of Service implied that users did not have consumer guarantee rights regarding the quality, functionality, completeness, accuracy or performance of their purchased digital games. This was false as these guarantees cannot be excluded, restricted or modified.

“Consumers who buy digital products online have exactly the same rights as they would if they made the purchase at a physical store,” Mr Sims said.

“No matter where in the world a company has its headquarters, if it is selling to Australian consumers, the Australian Consumer Law applies.”

Sony Europe admitted liability and made joint submissions to the Federal Court with the ACCC. Sony Europe will also contribute to the ACCC’s legal costs.

Sounds more like PlayStation/SONY issue and not Anthem?

Somehow I felt this is quite an appropriate thread to post that news :D

PS refunds are terrible. The chat support is awful as well.

Yup, I hope more countries/institutions start doing this and penalize Sony enough so that they are forced to reconsider their anti-consumer refund policy.

Okay either way. If they plan to revive, they need to make it F2P, put it on Steam, add seasonal stuff, add endgame stuff, add loot. The combat was fine already but lacked content massively.

If they plan to kill it, fine as well. BioWare did an awful job.

Anthem Development Ceases, BioWare to Focus on Dragon Age, Mass Effect

Quote

EA chief studios officer Laura Miele says game was a 'creative risk" that taught the company a lot.

"Game development is hard. Decisions like these are not easy. Moving forward, we need to laser focus our efforts as a studio and strengthen the next Dragon Age, and Mass Effect titles while continuing to provide quality updates to Star Wars: The Old Republic."

Rest in peace. ?
