Well, am not into resident evil series so had booted up evil within 2 & Dead Space 2. Finished both of them and now onto Dead Space 1 - one of the best in the series. I tired resident evil demo of both remakes however, the gameplay is not up to my liking, so have not picked any of the games

Why did you play dead space 2 before DS1?

Nothing specific, I like the gameplay of dead space 2 more than dead space 1. Though, the first part nails the atmosphere and claustrophobic feeling of being stuck in a “ghost ship” perfectly. Have played the games after a loooong time and am enjoying every bit of it[emoji846]

  • 1 year later...

Started playing this in the weekend and before that wanted to refresh my memory on events from the first game. Watched this video -

And holy ?, this is one of the best stories I have ever seen in a game. Was so caught up with the weird and twisted world of the first game that I had completely missed the plot . Gem of a game, if you are a survival horror fan. So far liking the sequel too.

Same, had no idea what the heck was going on for 2/3rds of the game.

Need to start the sequel soon, how is it compared to the first one? Others have said its better than EW1.

Way better than the first game in my opinion. This one actually gave prominence to the story a lot more than the first game and blended the semi-open world gameplay elements seamlessly. This is the perfect time to play the game. Pick a dark rainy day and fire it up. ;)

Sequel is great. But TEW 1 is simply superior and a survival horror masterpeice.

Had played just about an hr tbh, so cant comment. There were too many references to the events of first game which I wasn't getting, so watched the story video first and now started watching a full play-through of the first game ?

Dude, that's perfect and coincidentally the exact same thing I did when this game came out. It was so brilliant I wrapped it up in 2 days. My thoughts are posted back on page 9. You're in for ride man.

Thats good to hear :) Any spoilers in your review? Any game I am remotely interested in, I go on complete media black out for it.

Wise choice as always; I do the same. You can finish the game and then read up on it if you want. Don't forget to post your progress here. Enjoy your vacation!

12 hours in and I havnt reached even the half way mark yet. Spent way too much time in Chapter 3. Absolutely loving the game!! First two chapters were filled with spooky bone-chilling moments and once the world opened up in Chapter 3...it was a joy to explore too. Its like every house has a story to tell. Some of the enemy designs made me wonder who comes up with all this stuff? Have scanned every square inch of the map. Atmosphere is top notch, have to take a break after every hr or two to get a breather. Love such games who dont rely much on cheap jump scares. I so wish this game had a VR mode. Would have given RE7 serious competition.

Now the save system is on top of the things I dint like. The game autosaves progress and yet I've to go to safe house and manually save else all the progress until the last manual save will be lost ?‍♂️
Very mediocre enemy AI. Releases lots of tension created by the game as its very easy to avoid enemies if they spot you.
Chapter 4 :furious:

Finished the game. Loved it from start to finish, except chapter 4. Though the 'WTF-is-happening' vibe was much stronger in first game, I never got to finish it, so overall would rate this game higher. With constant introduction of new enemies, weapons, upgrades etc, the game play loop never became repetitive.

Spoiler

And the three villains with their very different personality, mannerisms and motives kept the campaign fresh and engaging through out the 25 hours I had spent. Compared to first game, story was just serviceable otherwise.

Also after playing the first game, chapter 14 felt so badass. :punk:

Even the side characters were memorable and felt important to the overall plot. Side missions were not shoehorned just to increase the overall length. Even though they are the usual go to point A to collect this or do that kind of tasks, they still add to the overall lore and fit well with the setting and tone of the game.
tl:dr, I am all praise for the game :D  Must play, if you are a fan of horror genre and havnt tried it yet.

Spoiler

The ghost lady encounters in the game were exceptional :majesty: But her ending felt a bit abrupt. Would be better, if her story/motivations are a bit more fleshed out.

I hope MS greenlits another game in the franchise and give them enough freedom to develop. With MS's money and support and enough time to polish, this could very well be among the best this genre can offer.

Just noticed that I have already reacted to that post, lol. Fingers crossed for a sequel/spin off.

And that page 9 is something...with people declaring SP games dead..worrying how long Bethesda is going to fund such games etc etc :) For this game though, it was really depressing times back then tbh. I remember it was on sale for just 18$, within a month. I hadn't played TEW till then and thought it must be a mediocre game and hence the steep discount...so never bothered to play this earlier.

Loved it. Impressions on last page.

Ah sorry about that, looks like it reached the end of the page. Yep pretty much lines up with how I felt about the game. The end for this one seemed more satisfying.

Also remember this part?

Yup. Perfect score after the intense chapters that came earlier.

I actually didn't like it as much as part 1. Felt it was too stretched out this time.

Pacing isnt the same because of the open areas but otherwise not sure, I found it hard to put the controller down while playing the last 4-5 chapters. I liked exploring the open areas at my own pace and they might make the game less frustrating at higher difficulties because of the various options to tackle enemies or to avoid confrontation completely and save ammo. Story-wise, compared to the first game it just dsnt hold a candle, but the protagonist there was just another washed out cop, drowning in alcohol because of his past...quite generic. I liked Sebastian's character in this game much more.
