Chewie
anyone know any reliable guys in mumbai who can repair a wii (most probably its power unit) and aslo install modchips. preferably someone who'll open it up and give u an estimate that time itself. also since its only 2 months old (i bought it through a cousin who came down from the US) would u guys reccomend trying to get it repaired here (and voiding the warranty) or trying to send it to the US either through courier or in case i can find someone who's going there. i'm just worried that the local guy will open it up and will either not be able to repair it or it'll cost me big time. but on the other hand sending it to the US will mean that i wont get it back for a few months and if nintendo dont cover failure due to power surges (which seems to be the cause of the problem) or it being used in a country with a different voltage system it may end up costing as much. what do u guys feel? also in case i have it opened i may as well install a modchip. what has been your experince wit modchips? does that create a problem with automatic updates bricking the wii? how can i avoid that happening? any clues? Kazekage Gaara
Hi, I know a guy named Salim who has his shop set in Musafir Khana (nearby Manish Market) nearby CST Station. Here's his complete address... Sony Service Centre Madina, A Wing, 1st Flor, Musafir Khana. Contact : Salim Ph: 66589327, 9867244969 I own a Wii NTSC/US Model, and I had to get my modchip replaced as the one I already had was a shitty modchip (which came with the Wii). He charged me 150 bucks for the chip and 750 bucks for installing it, but I should tell you that the chip was a duplicate one and that too it had only 5 wires for installation (earlier Wii models only required 5 wires for modchip installation). Wii modchips for current Wiis are very costly and require somewhere around 18 to 30 wires for installation. Some of the latest ones do require very less wire count (may be 8 to 13) but I don't know why these guys don't keep them. Am not sure how much he'll charge you but I know some guy on these forums who approached him with his broken Wii, and he charged him an exorbitant price. I would recommend you to take your Wii to him and ask him how much he's gonna charge you and then decide whether you wanna get it repaired here or send it for repairs to US. But on the other hand, this guy can only tell you the extent of your damage/costs only after opening the console up. So its your choice. Also, I read somewhere on the internet that a Wii doesn't come with a warranty seal/sticker or something from Nintendo, so there is actually no way to tell whether your Wii was previously opened, but am not particularly sure about this You might wanna check it out Lemme know how it goes. Good Luck!!!

Kazekage Gaara
try out heera panna or Ninja Traders (they have another shop by a different name a few shops away which handles ahem stuff). Salim (Sony Service Center) is the guy who does all the mods, repairs, etc for all the shops there in MK including Ninja Traders, Sony TV Games, Kidzone, etc. If you go to them, your Wii is gonna end up to Salim anyways, difference being they'll addin their "extra charge" for the service @Kazekage Gaara whats the best Wii modchip available in the market for a NTSC-UC Wii and how can you identify your current modchip in your Wii... Im not kinda happy with my modchip as it does not play Super Mario Galaxy. Well, the question "which modchip is the best" depends on which drive you have. You can check which drive you got by inputing your Wii's serial number here.... http://www.wiidrives.com/list (latest site) http://wiitracker.nintendo-scene.com/search.php (a little old) If you have a DMS, D2A, or D2B, then you can go ahead with a Wiikey or Wiinja Deluxe. Both are really good and require a very low wire count (mostly 5 wires). If you have the D2C drive, then your only options are the latest generation of modchips named Wasabi, D2Pro, Argon, or D2Ckey. You can check out detailed reviews of these modchips here.... http://www.iso420.org/wii.htm I would prefer the Wasabi modchip only coz it does what its supposed to do, has a very low wire count (compared to other modchips), and is DVD upgradable (though no updates are available as yet). You can also check out the Argon modchip. It's a good, solid modchip, and works flawlessly. It has a very low wire count too but the only problem is that you need some kind of a JDAG programmer or something (I have no idea what that is and how it works) to update your modchip. A few updates are already available for this modchip, which clear out some bugs, etc., and updating that modchip initially is a must coz the bugs are said to be "unbearable" D2Pro is also a good modchip and does what its supposed to do. Works flowlessly and has a good low wire count. The only MAJOR problem, at least in my eyes, is that you'll have to open your Wii again if there is any need to upgrade your chip in the future. There is no other way, and even then, you'll require that same kinda JDAG programmer to program it, which really sucks, and I don't know why people even make a thing like that. Also, I would suggest you to avoid D2CKey modchip like a PLAGUE It does it's job no doubt about it but the wire count is a whooping 30 wires even though there are other modchips available in the market who do the same thing with a considerably low wire count. Also, a D2Ckey modchip can NEVER be updated. So, all in all, Wasabi wins handsdown, does what it's supposed to do, supports the D2C drive, and upgrades via DVD (thats what they claim - no updates yet to prove it). So, all in all, its your choice You can speak with Salim and check out which chips he has. I believe he charges a lot for a D2Ckey or any chip other modcihp (prolly coz the wire count is too high), so you better check out the prices of those chips before you speak to him. Hi, I checked out the drive that you have by putting that serial in, and it said that there is a 75% chance that it's a D2C and not the latest D2C2 chip. But anyways, I would certainly go with that you have a D2C drive and may be the D2Ckey modchip. Anyways, why aren't you happy with your modchip ? Are you facing any problems ?
