Numbers, MTx, and Fiscal sales discussion thread

Not surprising where the focus of all these companies are going. Look at Acti-Blizz. They even managed to ruin a remaster of a legendary game (Warcraft 3 Reforged). But the thing is, despite all these so called "Profits", the share rate of Ubi, Take 2 and Acti-Blizz are going down. Meanwhile share prices of CDPR is continuously rising, and Nintendo prices are consistent and of a far higher value than these so-called publishers, that too over the years. (Source Google, which shows all share values).

Should tell these so called "AAA" publishers something. Don't know why they don't adopt the practices of those companies.

ATVI has huge market cap. They and other top publishers almost recover YTD and push into massive profits. While their share price didn't rise or doubled up like CDPR they still made more than them to keep the investors happy. CDPR is more of quality over quantity and that doesn't compete with these big publishers. While "gamers" like quality MTX free stuff but majority seems to don't care and still buy into MTX from other publishers.

Can easily see CDPR getting into MTX stuff with Cyberpunk. The profit from it for very minimal work is too good to skip.

Personally not interested in ATVI stuff anymore. Never knew one could ruin Warcraft 3. Acti will continue to live on CoD while Blizzard continue to scam their too loyal base with terrible game releases.

Two different lawyers Karim Morand-Lahouazi and Victor Zagury have now filed cases in France against EA, to classify EA's micro-transactions, especially FIFA's Ultimate Team as "Gambling".Their argument (From Source) -

The legal duo are arguing that in order to win in this game mode, you have to pay and gamble, spending money on FIFA card packs that could include any player available in the game.

Zagury explains further: “In this game, everyone wants to have a dream team to go as far as possible. My client spent €600 in five months without ever getting a big player. The developers of this game mode have created an illusionary and particularly addictive system. The more you pay, the more you have the possibility of getting big players. We believe that a gambling game has been integrated into this video game because buying packs is nothing more than a bet. It is the logic of a casino that has entered their homes. Today, an 11 or 12-year-old teenager can, without any restriction, play FUT and commit money because there is no parental control system in this mode. Belgium and the Netherlands have already taken up this issue.”

By filing this suit, the two lawyers are hoping to be able to gain insight into “the algorithm which generates the distribution of player cards in packs.”

32-year-old chauffeur Mamadou talked to L’Équipe about his FUT addiction: “You quickly become addicted to this game… whenever I buy a pack, I tell myself that this is the last time, but I always do it again. You get so frustrated when you don’t get good enough players that you buy again and again.”

Since the release of the latest game, FIFA 20, in September, Mamadou has spent €600 on packs and the best player he has got so far is Kostas Manolas (Napoli). Mamadou added: “I didn’t even know him! Put so much money in just to get Manolas… People I know have put in €2,000 or €3,000 it’s crazy… The amount I have spent has made me fall behind on my rent payments.”

He's 32 and instead of paying his rent, he blows it up on packs and then complains. Pack odds are already shown in-store. What was he expecting?

Gold 75+ Player - 100%

Gold 82+ Player - 18%

Gold 84+ Player - 4.2%

Manolas is 85 rated. Seems to work as intended and the guy was just dumb. Also, €600 is very small number to fight against EA.

While it will be cool but very unlikely this will change anything in France. More people need to show up or stop buying FPs which isn't happening as packs are always sold out.

Not happening. As long as this cancer stays in sports games I don't care personally. That genre is so far gone down the sh*thole its hopeless.

Blaming someone who got addicted (by a program DESIGNED to encourage that behavior) is what gives companies a free pass to do this sh*t.

Well, I don't know where else this can go (can't find a thread for Fortnite or The Apple Thread in GC either), but Epic Games has filed a lawsuit against Apple.

Here's a basic timeline of events:

Normally, I wouldn't bother, but I read the first few pages of the lawsuit and it's pretty 'entertaining' in a way. Give it a read.

Epic of all companies should understand that 30% is the platform fee, same as what they have been paying to MS, Sony....

This was one of most mindless revolt.

And these greedy toads, Epic, once raised the Unreal engine licencing unilaterally, leading to one of the publishers dropping it's use.

Don't see any way Epic can get away with this. Any other company would have to pay up, they will too.

Maybe they thought Apple will let this slide because Fortnite is making them a ton of money, and they'd be willing to decrease the 30% cut.

Besides, why don't they revolt against Sony, MS and Nintendo too? Its not exactly a new issue and they've been making games for years.

Their cut is not flat 30% for everything like Apple. For eg 1000 V-bucks on PSN/XBL cost $8, same as Epic's own store. On app store it costs $10. This is what the lawsuit is about.

Nope. That's the new price cut. 20% discount on V-Bucks.

What EPIC did was they added direct payment option letting players to buy V-bucks for $8 from EPIC itself and cutting out middleman (and the fee that EPIC has to pay to Apple or Google).

Currently, when using Apple and Google payment options, Apple and Google collect a 30% fee, and the up to 20% price drop does not apply. If Apple or Google lower their fees on payments in the future, Epic will pass along the savings to you.

They don't want to pay 30% cut while cutting V-bucks price by 20%.

Epic enabled a feature in its app which was not reviewed or approved by Apple, and they did so with the express intent of violating the App Store guidelines regarding in-app payments that apply to every developer who sells digital goods or services.

Epic agreed to the App Store terms and guidelines freely and we’re glad they’ve built such a successful business on the App Store. The fact that their business interests now lead them to push for a special arrangement does not change the fact that these guidelines create a level playing field for all developers and make the store safe for all users. We will make every effort to work with Epic to resolve these violations so they can return Fortnite to the App Store.

Quote

The open Android ecosystem lets developers distribute apps through multiple app stores. For game developers who choose to use the Play Store, we have consistent policies that are fair to developers and keep the store safe for users. While Fortnite remains available on Android, we can no longer make it available on Play because it violates our policies. However, we welcome the opportunity to continue our discussions with Epic and bring Fortnite back to Google Play.

Epic want's to use Apple and Google's storefront, but doesn't want to pay them for it. Instead, they want to sell their micro transactions at a discounted price, which actually equals 10% more profit for Epic.

What EPIC did/doing is scumming as shite.

You can still load up V-bucks cheap from the webstore through Safari. This is how I used to grab magazine subs because they used to be cheaper than buying directly via IAP. Apple has always been anal about IAP and one click purchases, even back when the only thing they sold were iTunes songs.

Yep, they basically decided to show the players that if these storefronts weren't there, the customers would be saving money.

epic-direct-pay-google-play-store-2045x9

Obviously, it was totally clear that they anticipated being banned from both storefronts after this update. You can't just have a provocative trailer and lawsuits in the matter of an hour or so.

This.

they effectively want gplay/AppStore to give the discount they are advertising as their own.
