Common guys one liners are not good here. One on One flaming will not help either. XBOX is Best or PS3 is Best. It is the reasoning part why we are here.

I have started this thread because of some of my personal irritation with Microsoft behavior. It started back then when I signed up for XBOX live gold membership. A friend of mine offered me the membership for little less than what Microsoft charges. But to my surprise Microsoft has stored my credit card number on their servers permanently and they automatically charge to my card each month. I went online at Microsoft's Billing site there was no way I would remove the card. After a few days I called XBOX customer care. The lady said its not possible since the current amount is still not settled. I Called almost seven times to get my damn credit card removed from my the Microsoft billing system.

Now tell me how ethical behavior is this. You can accept a card number, but cant remove it without calling customer care and going through all this hassles.

Also Harrydeo, I am quite surprised by the statement of yours that cracking of Xbox 360 will teach MS a lesson!!!

If not anything else, it casts a shadow on all your views expressed here. Cracking and the eventual pirating of the games can be disastrous not only for the console manufacturer but also for game developers, publishers and everyone else involved in it.

I certainly do not need to point out how the pirated games industry is hurting the PC scene so much. So there is hardly a thing to gloat if a console is cracked. For all your brand loyalty, it just shows that you are a Sony fanboy first and a gamer second.

For all our Xbots and PSf**s bickering, here at GI, being a gamer is what truly counts.

I think you got me wrong here. I am not a supporter of piracy. No way. It killed PC gaming. It is killing PSP and DS. Here is what I meant:

Microsoft Lock: XBOX360 can only run code signed by Microsoft. It is done by a Private Key encryption (256 bit,High grade) that is only with Microsoft. Now I am a game developer too. I want my games (Developed by Me) on XBOX 360 (Purchased by me) on XBOX360 for free. But that is not possible 1) I have to pay Microsoft for premier subscription of Creator's club 2) Even If I want to do that I cant do it because my console is from India. So I am paying for XBOX360, The Tools, My Computing Resource, XBOX Live Gold and I cant have my games on my own XBOX360 because Microsoft wants to suck more blood.

When you get a console (for that matter any machine) you should have some kind of ownership on your own console.

And even though they do so much inhuman things, some hackers managed to get a go to run own code on XBOX 360 (King Kong exploit). So it is kind of a big slap on Microsoft's face.

I am a gamer, but I am a developer too. I enjoy developing for consoles. I hacked my PSP not to run pirated games on it but to run my own code on it.

Wow! You develop games for consoles!! Amazing.

The only kind of games I have developed are old arcade style games (space invader style and pacman) in JAVA.

Perhaps you could give me some pointers as to where to start for console game development.

i agree that getting it removed from their system is a pain and i had to go through it myself, but this works like many other recurring subscription services where the subscription is automatically renewed when the current subscription ends.....im pretty sure its mentioned when you sign up, so you should have known this before you got into it...different companies have different policies and you cant blame them coz u didnt read the fine print

But if you can do in JAVA you can do on other platforms as well.

I would love to share the information. Probably on a separate thread, mean while you can look at :

1. www.ps2dev.org : For PS2,PSP and PS3 development, excellent platform to begin with.

2. http://creators.xna.com : For XNA based game development. You can do the development for XBOX360 too, but you no the irritation part. But Microsoft developers tools (Lead by an Indian Soma, http://blogs.msdn.com/somasegar/) are 1st class and available for free. You can develop for windows using XNA Studio, Based on Visual Studio 2005. It is just the Microsoft marketing who are Dracullas.

It doesnt happen with other systems. Yes I agree that I did not read the fine print. But all other services at least provide you an easy way to add a payment medium and remove it yourself without calling anybody. Also things like this should be in bold print rather than fine print.

Oh it is, slowly.

GTFO

DS hardware is 4 years old, cheap as hell to manufacture, and still selling as much as the Wii (if not more). That doesn't even factor in the software sales. Phantom Hourglass sold more than Twilight Princess, just to give a comparison. And if things look slow? Nintendo will just release another Pokemon. BAM, 1 million sales in the pocket from Japan alone.

And this is in addition to the recent shutting down of slot-1 card manufacturers. Naturally, they'll still lose money, but will it really matter? Really?

You want to run your own homebrew code on an off-the-shelf Xbox 360 just because you wrote it? I am sure even PS3 doesn't allow that. You have to have a debug unit to play unsigned code and that's applicable for all the consoles, no matter which company is making them.

MS XBLA has come under quite a lot of flak for creating hurdles for game developers, yet top-notch quality titles like Braid and indie-efforts like Dishwasher have ended up on XBLA and have had quite a romp in the lime light.

You being a game developer, do you find it easy to show case your game on PSN?
