abhi90
Since i had a couple of queries i thought that it would be a better reason to start a new thread than post in the ps3 problem topic.......... Problem 1) I had first connected my ps3 to the internet by means of a lan cable but that seemed too tedious so i got a new wifi modem ..... when i connect then usually i get an error DNS 80710102..... i get connected about once in 4 or 5 times...... any specific reason.... Info:- i use a bsnl connection and my modem is NOKIA SIEMENS SL2_141 Problem 2) My ps3 is kept in the adjacent room in which the modem is kept but it still does not have a strong connection.... It's(Signal Strength) mostly around 70 % occasionally dropping to 45% and sometimes going upto 90% Problem 3) Also how long does it take to download the 2.42 firmware update as i downloaded for about 40 mins and it was only 15% so i was tired and let it go....... EDIT :- While testing the internet connection(in xmb) the results are:- 1) Obtaining Ip address : succeeded 2) connecting to internet(or something like that) : failed reason: (as pointed above) error 80710102 (DNS) ============================================== EDIT : Problem resolved by manually putting the dns........opendns rocks..... A BIG thanks to all of you who helped me especially to:- 1) Pra2veen 2) LastAvenger

lastAvenger
Problem 1 ] Use OpenDNS : http://www.opendns.com/ This should help resolve the DNS issue. Problem 2 ] I can't understand. Which signal strength ? is it LAN or WiFi ? Problem 3 ] PSN servers are very slow and hence it takes a lot of time to download the firmware. This also depends on your internet connection. Usually it takes about an hour to download the update. http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/About/Sy....html#update_PC Direct Link : http://dus01.ps3.update.playstation.net/up...dc/PS3UPDAT.PUP 130Mb

Pushy
i have a 2mbps connection so it definatley isn't slow........ u have BSNL/MTNL which doesn't actually provide 2MPBPS + it's non-dedicated line, that means u r bound to get various speed at any instant. example u may get 900 kbps at one sec. but another sec. u may get 1 kbps, u get teh point
MITHUNtheDON
Are you using the first Basic BSNL which says 256kbps to 2 MBPS Abhi?

Somebody
example u may get 900 kbps at one sec. but another sec. u may get 1 kbps, u get teh point it's 256kbps-2mbps connection pushy. so, he should be getting atleast 30kBps down and up which should be sufficient for most games @abhinit: check if the router is getting disconnected or reset when u try to sign into PSN. if the router is connected to a PC too, then it'll say 'local area connection unplugged' or something like that. i had the same problem. it connects eventually after a few trials. Somebody
i used to get different errors at different times. sometimes, obtaining ip address: failed or internet connection: failed. i used to get the error whenever the router got restarted. i never understood why my router kept restarting itself. urs might be something else. Pushy
^ @mithun: i use the 500 home plan and i get good speeds usually around 200 Kilo BYTE per second... OMG u get 200 kB/s, wow u got the fastest connection all over India, 200 kB/s = 12 MB/min. NOTE: 200 kB/s * 60(seconds) = 12 MB/min. get ur facts right kiddo, it should be 200 kbps, which is 25 kB/s which is 1.5 MB/s.
Somebody
what's wrong with ppl getting 200kBps ??? u get that kind of speeds if u take a 2mbps connection. atleast i used to get it when i was using the bsnl home500 plan.

Apparently simple arithmetic is not your forte. How the hell can 25 kB/s = 1.5MB/s??? On a 256 Kbps connection i used to get around 30 kB/s downloads which is close to what we expect (256/8) So on a 2MBps connection i would easily expect 200+ kB/s.
