To remove the base version altogether is a silly move, IMO.

I mean, what's the harm?

How difficult is it to have a separate SKU of just the game, as it was, for all this time since the game released?

Just because there's a Director's Cut, I'm being barred from simply buying the base game and playing on my PS5 (via BC). I am not interested in the DLC. I am not interested in the PS5 upgrades. Give me an option. Shouldn't be that hard. Abhi jhak-maarke, I HAVE to buy the Director's Cut when it launches OR I'm pretty sure I'll have to wait a year or so to think of GoT Director's Cut to go to the same level of discounts that the original had gone.

Now, I'm sure someone or the other will get into the 'schooling' mode and lecture me about Business 101. Well, if there's a business, there should also be something called customer centricity and giving appropriate options to your customer goes a long way.

This is no different from Apple doing a scummy Apple move just because they can and their crowd lapping it up. Pretty sure that's exactly what'll happen with this and Death Stranding, too. People will buy loads of it (some like me, because the option has been taken away and I'm a sucker) and Sony and their fanboys will be happy.

Oh well...

End of rant.

One last time, there should be options, Sony.

This! 100%. I was so pissed about Death Stranding discounted version being taken down. Same with this game. While I was wishing to pick these game up in the coming months on sale, now I would be a fool to think they will be discounted anytime before year end or next year first quarter.

I was watching some other video and this line really resonated with me:

"Sony may have a better library of games. But they are not a better company than Microsoft"

You can still buy the PS4 DC SKU & play it via BC on PS5 without paying for or using the upgrades

Also stopping the base SKU from going on discounts was as easy as removing it coz there was no permanent price cut ever

So basically your rant has more to do with not getting enough discount rather than missing on a particular SKU

I think this rant can wait till you see how much discount is offered next time the new SKU goes on one

But if you can’t wait till then,be my guest (or Sony’s actually)

Get the physical version via offline channels.

Two different skus of the same game online, with differential pricing might get confusing for some.

Something similar happened with metro exodus ( two versions at different price(s)). A majority of new players would anyways go for the director's cut ( on psn store). Hence they removed the base PS4 version.

Metro Exodus also they pulled similar sh*t. Hiked the price mid-sale a day before the patch was to go live.

They removed one version from the store in June. A member wanted to buy one but was confused. Forgot his moniker

IIRC there were 2 versions, one for PS4 and one for PS5(enhanced edition). Both were on sale but PS4 version was cheaper by approx 600INR.

Since upgrade to PS5(enhanced edition) was free, both versions were the same. They removed the cheaper one :/

Yupp. The developer gave something for free. Sony slashed the discount, pocketing the difference.

That’s just stupid to think

developers get a percentage cut & not a fixed amount

Even 10 year old kids know the basic retailing

Please don’t try so hard with your agenda

Please grow up, if possible. Its retarded to think that everyone has an agenda here. Besides, between someone who has spent 50K on a product and someone who has no personal stakes whatsoever, its pretty darn clear who would have an ulterior motive.  Owners of products have genuine concerns about product pricing and experience, and they come to forums to express and discuss that. But, I guess, some people just come here to give analysis no body asked for and defend policies of companies that aren't even aware of these people's puny existence.

Something similar happened to Jedi fallen order. When the PS5 free version was released, EA removed it from the EA Play category for a while.

plus the deluxe edition at priced 2000  in the summer sale. Before it was less at 1750 in the previous sale.
