Axe looks puny in his hands in that trailer ! There's a reason why those blades were famous, it suited kratos personality of being in an incessant rage perfectly, also it was an all round weapon against enemies of all types. I have a feeling, the axe can be upgraded later to a more powerful weapon and this is just it's initial form !

Same. He looked like an a**hole in the older games with all that OTT rage. Here he looks like a badass and that same anger can be seen in his eyes throughout the trailer. Like a volcano that can go off anytime. Great work by their facial animators.

The uninteresting axe is a strong indicator that everything we've seen so far is a short prelude to the main story. Kratos isn't himself unless he's consumed with rage. I have a sneaky suspicion that following the prelude, just before the story reaches the halfway mark, Kratos will get reacquainted with his trusty Blades of Chaos thus unleashing all of his full fury. From there on till the conclusion, camera movement during combat will become somewhat restricted but not to the extent in previous GoW titles.

I feel Kratos should not go back to his rage mode in this game. We already had 3 games (Not counting sequels, spin-offs etc.) where his main characterization was only rage. Kratos, as a person (and a character in a game) has to evolve. They can't just keep rehashing the same old "Family Killed, Gets mad continuously and revenge driven" persona permanently. In fact his entire existence was only characterized by "rage" and "revenge". Nothing else.

Now that he has a son (either by blood or adopted, I don't know), the fight to actually protect his family and showing emotions other than "Kratos Angry" and "Kratos Kill" should make things much more interesting. It can also serve to move the character forward, instead of the perpetual loop of rage and revenge he was stuck in. It would also be interesting to see him trying to control his anger, that defined him for so long, in front of his son, and still fight. The rage is still there, but he has to control it in such a manner, that it doesn't spill out to his family, but still helps keep his ferocity in combat.

Kratos has had his revenge. Now let's see some new aspects of him and try to move his and the World's story forward.

I hope the second part of your statement doesn't come about or it will just be a rehash of GoW 1-3

Makes sense. Never liked the whole 'will kill mindlessly because rage' setting of the previous games. That's why, I can never get around completing even the first game. Just lose interest while playing it.

Also, official box-art. Not sure if this was posted here before.

How so? Character development and emotional resonance are two separate things. A character doesn't become unintelligible just because you cannot emotionally connect with the same. As a character, Kratos has never evolved in any of the previous installments. His lack of character-depth hasn't made him any less special. His rage defined him all throughout the franchise and will continue to do so. This reflects in the narration that Cory has in store for GoW 2018. If you pay attention to the trailers, you'll notice that Kratos is struggling with parenthood. For a man who's known only anger for as long as he can remember, Kratos is now forced to deal with emotions that he thought he'd never be capable of ever again.

But...

Majority of GoW fans probably want to see Kratos rage against a god lest emotionally connect with him. So instead of having Kratos, as a character, display a full range of complex emotions, Barlog is instead tailoring a plot that will force Kratos to deal with the simplest of emotions thus creating a disconnect that is not only small enough to tease gamers/fans into believing that they've emotionally connected with him, but one that is also adequately large so as to avoid confusing fans when Kratos unleashes his rage.

Now that's called character development. Take some time to think about it. Have faith in Barlogs' brilliance. He knows what he's doing! :D

Exactly; let the rage be there. I am all for it. Kratos, having trouble with the simplest emotions is as it should be. He only had rage for so long that difficulty in dealing with other emotions is understandable.

According to me, it will be fun seeing Kratos just on the boiling point, but still consciously trying to control his rage in front of his son. Let his perpetual being on the edge of the boiling point be his character. But, let him improve as the game is about to end.

Let the son/family be put in danger. Let Kratos go over in full rage at times. But let him try to reign it back in again when situation improves. That would be fun to see.

Let's not make it that either Kratos or some god kills his family again and he once again sets on a crusade to kill gods. Only this time Norse ones. That's what I meant when I said rehash of GoW 1-3.

Anyway that's my opinion on the matter.

The mature (for the lack of a better term) Kratos is a plus for me and the reason why I am actually looking forward to the game (besides the combat and giant monsters). Let's face it, most of us aren't adolescents anymore. All the memories we have of GOW 1 and 2 are from a time when we were younger. Things always seem much cooler in memory. I'm glad they're taking the series in a different direction. They know most long time fans have matured too.

I'm sure his rage will be a part of the story and I'm fully expecting the blades to show up at some point. Will be a huge badass moment in the game.

hope Looks a lot like a Jotun/Giant. Will we see Kratos and his son travel to Jotunheim? Moreover, whose severed head is he carrying this time?

Is that Loki's head?

Also 2 Wolves of Odin?See the 2nd pair of eyes.
