Introducing RAGE 2, a new first-person shooterverse! Get a first look of the upcoming game in our first official gameplay trailer.

In RAGE 2, you’ll dive headfirst into a dystopian world devoid of society, law, and order. You can go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything. The game brings together two studio powerhouses - Avalanche Studios, masters of open world mayhem and id Software, gods of the first-person shooter – to deliver a carnival of carnage.

In the year 2185, humanity’s numbers are dwindling. Ruthless and bloodthirsty gangs roam the open roads and the tyrannical Authority seek to rule who remains with an iron fist. You are Walker, the last Ranger of the wasteland. Robbed of your home and left for dead, you’ll tear across an unforgiving wasteland battling bloodthirsty gangs to find the tools and tech needed to take the fight to The Authority and crush their oppressive rule once and for all!

  • Bring the pain using a collection of upgradable weapons, devastating Nanotrite powers, and Overdrive, the ability to push your guns beyond their mechanical limits.
  • From monster trucks to gyrocopters, use an assortment of rugged and wasteland-ready vehicles to speed across the badlands. If you see it, you can drive it.
  • Fight against ferocious factions for control of the wasteland, each featuring a rogue’s gallery of madmen, mutants, and monsters hungry for blood.
  • Seamlessly traverse a vast and varied landscape, from lush jungles and treacherous swamps to sun-scorched deserts in your pursuit of The Authority. The wasteland is massive, and you’ve got the arsenal to fight for every inch.

Hmmm never played the first one.

What is it like?

An awesome shooter with an atmospheric world. However, the story and characters were just bland. It was also buggy. The gunplay was so much fun that made you forget the bad stuff.

The ad looks kind of more fun and less serious. Colourful and likely full co-op?

Can't wait. 9U93l0M.png

Also, id software + avalanche. Hyped for it. And it's Bethesda so it'll come out in a few months.

Pre-order is up. Expecting the release in few months. pr9W1XK.png

GameStar: Why Rage 2 now?

Tim Willits: We at id and Bethesda have always loved the Rage world and the basic idea of the game. And then there was the opportunity to work with Avalanche and with it the opportunity to do what we always wanted to do.

GameStar: What does the work distribution look like, what does avalanche do, what does id software do?

Tim Willits: Avalanche has the bigger team. But it has never been such a "develop a game and then show it to us" opportunity between us. Rage 2 was a collaborative project from the start. I and other people at id work very closely with Avalanche to create this id-like first-person shooter action. And at Avalanche is the Open World expertise.

GameStar: Do you follow the Games as a Service approach for Rage 2?

Tim Willits: Yeah, we want people to play Rage 2 longer, and we think we can bring some fun stuff that makes it possible, but we'll talk about it in more detail as we move closer to the release of Rage 2.

GameStar: That brings us to the next point: how do you feel about Lootboxes in Rage 2?

Tim Willits: We will not have any Lootboxes, I can say that for sure. We have this novel approach: You buy the game and then you play it. (laughs)

RAGE 2 will be released in Spring 2019, and will be a fully open-world game its developers describe as a "shooterverse". Bethesda's calling it "more than a shooter, more than an open world game – it’s a shooterverse."  The game returns to the original's focus on both over-the-top gunplay and vehicle combat, with upgradable guns, Nanotrite Powers (currently we only know of "a devastating slam attack" and a "lethal energy push"), and Overdrive, "the ability to push your guns beyond their mechanical limits."

That seems to be it for official information for the moment - Bethesda points out that the next time it will be showing off Rage 2 will be as part of its E3 showcase on Sunday, June 10 at 6:30pm Pacific.
