satanicsaint
Last week, Comcast -- the second-largest Internet service provider in the country -- announced that starting Oct. 1 it would officially set a threshold for monthly Internet usage. In an online announcement, the service provider said that although it already contacts residential customers who use excessive amounts of bandwidth, it had never provided a specific limit. Now, Comcast said it will amend its user agreement to say that users will be allowed 250 gigabytes of monthly usage. KingCease
Yeah been hearing this story since a month or 2 now. The recording industry has taken comcast on thier side and since then comcast is being a B!tch for bandwith hogs. These things only works when u have a monopoly in a certain area. its jus a matter of time someone realises the market and brings in what ppl need, Tranferring data over a bandwith doesnt cost money. Btw last i heard the court ordered them to uncap it.
Bulovski
Comcast delivers internet at 10 mbps and up speeds. That can amount to a loooooooot of data. People see movies and tv shows over the internet (legally by streaming them). Hidef movies and tv shows can be a lot of data.
john117
^^Holy sh*t!!!With a 256kbps line,it will take a lifetime to d/l 250 Gigs,let alone in a month!!! [OT] 256kb/s=32kB/s , here B=BYTE , b=bit 250GB/(32kB/s)=(250*2^10*2^10*2^10B)/(32*2^10B/s)=8192000s=2275.5 hours = 227.5 days ( if u dl 10 hrs a day ) i guess ur not planning to die in 227.5 days ,, [/OT]

Javs
because it could happen to why are we worried? we already had download limits set by MTNL mumbai (thats why i never took their connection) recently they started the unlimited connection plan for 2500Rs for a 256kbps, who would buy it when u can get others for under 1000Rs. the indian market is far more competitive and i think for ISPs to survive they need the unlimited plans
Bulovski
Right now unlimited downloads should not bother our ISPs. We hardly dl anything because of the speed. However, we could face this issue once we start getting cheap high speed broadband (cheaper than now).
