Legendary DLC

The already-revealed Ghost Town will be joined by a pair of other maps in Legendary, the first of which will actually be formally unveiled Tuesday– there’s one of those press releases announcing it and concrete details about the map’s release date and other sundry details. So, much to your chagrin, the wait is a few days longer.

However, below are a bunch of images of vehicles and their custom paint jobs for their appearance on next week’s map.

The Hornet is the only vehicle from this list that has seen gameplay adjustments, in addition to the cosmetic changes. If you’ve ever used the Hornet in a custom game, its missiles-n-guns variety of dominance is an overpowered spectacle to behold. Fun as that may be for the player in the Hornet, it’s a less than awesome situation for players feeling totally helpless while the sky opens up and your Halo experience is reduced to staring at death cam.

What’s different about this version of the Hornet? Its missiles have been removed and its guns have had their effectiveness reduced. It’s less of an airborne death machine and more of an aerial support vehicle now.

Legendary maps will be full of snow and will be HUGE. Oh how we can't wait until Tuesday ... joy, joy, joy!

Team SWAT makes its limited Halo 3 debut

headshottothebraindz.jpg

Just a little reminder for our obsessive Halo 3 gamers, right now Bungie just rolled out Team SWAT into Halo 3's search-able matchmaking playlists. The social Team SWAT playlist, a Halo 2 gametype where Spartans are stripped of their motion tracker and shields, will be available through March 23rd and offer up twice as many experience points as part of their previously announced Double XP Weekends. The same type of weekend funnery that the limited Griffball playlist was a part of. So, hop online, practice your headshots and rack up the XP. We know we'll be participating and winning ... often.

Bungie: Sidewinder + more awesome = Avalanche

sidewinderbutdifferent.jpg

After hearing about Halo 3's latest Legendary Map Pack addition being a "re-imagining" of Halo's Sidewinder, some fanboys' responses have been that of reserved excitement. Such reservation is probably due to the fact that Bungie openly made it known that Avalanche is not an exact port of Sidewinder as they had to make it more Halo 3 friendly. But such reservation may not be warranted, or so that's what Bungie is telling us.

Posting over on HBO, Bungie's own Sketch wanted to clear the air regarding Avalanche and what being "re-imagined" really means. According to the Sketch'ster, Avalanche is as close to the look and feel of Sidewinder as possible taking into account the design team's changes. Avalanche is not is considered a "spiritual successor" map such as Valhalla is to Blood Gulch or Guardian is to Lockout, but instead stays much more true to what Sidewinder had to offer. Sketch goes on to promise that "the overall layout and general play is going to feel very familiar" and really, we have every reason to believe him. Man cannons, more vehicles and more awesome should fit nicely into the Sidewinder recipe. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that Avalanche features the oh so iconic slippery ice that Sidewinder was known for.

Check out the latest Bungie Weekly Update...

To illustrate and illuminate some of the differences in the various Forge filters Stosh took the same screenshot over and over and over, and only changed the screenshot filters before taking the picture. The screen effects are just Forge objects, placed like any other object. Then, to take a screenshot using the screen effect players just have to simply watch their Saved Film and take a screenshot as you normally would -- the screen effect is applied to the whole map in the Saved Film (and during gameplay).

To clarify this a bit further, the Screen Filters are placed on a map in Forge. The object itself (the sphere above) is invisible during gameplay, but the object's effect is completely visible during gameplay, once it has been placed on the map. So I could place "Gloomy" on Avalanche in Forge, save it as Lukealanche and then when you play Lukealanche it will have the gloomy effect during actual gameplay. These are not post processing effects, they are applied live, in real time to the game you're playing.

Its all about Forg this time...

Bungie WWU: Legendary Forge Filters, Items

bungieforgefilters2df555.gif

When the Heroic map pack was being touted by Bungie, their biggest talking point was the Forge possibilities with the map Foundry. With the Legendary map pack Bungie has been rather quiet regarding any sort of new Forge features. Until now. This week Bungie went all out, revealing the specialized Forge items for each of the three Legendary maps. Avalanche has walls, corners, ramps and watchtowers. Blackout has ramps and doors to block off room interiors. And Ghost Town has ramps, bridges and scaffolding.

The real star of the show however, are Forge Filters (see above for a preview of a few). Forge Filters are: "forge objects that change the camera settings to create a variety of effects." Have you ever placed your camera in a very specific location to achieve a precise image effect? Say inside of an explosion or something? Now with Forge Filters, you can CHOOSE the image effect you want applied to you image. And from ANY camera position, even during gameplay!

Wow. Do want.
