So majority of sites giving out scores based on purely SP.?What about other 3 multiplayer modes. Multiplayer is core part of Gears, more than SP.

Are they waiting to see if servers remain stable at launch ?

Multiplayer mode? who are they suppose to play with to dish out scores.

COD and BF games reviews include multiplayer as well if im not wrong

I never watch review videos or read about it. If they do include multiplayer score into the review, who do this reviewers play with? Shouldn't the multiplayer score excluded from reviews until public launch of the game.

Confused between this and borderlands 3 :scratchchin:

Campaign is 10-15 hours. If you are not interested in Horde/Versus, then you probably won't spend more than 30-40 hours at best trying other modes while eventually giving up.

Plus, for $1, it's a great deal.

Borderlands 3 will have 70-100+ hours of campaign alone then comes endgame and whatnot. It will keep you busy for months.

  • Thanks 1

The games that modernized their sequels and scored 90+ fundamentally changed their gameplay loop, not just gimmicks like open wide levels. Gears 5 still has a near identical gameplay loop to first Gears with identical animations for roadie run/swoop to cover/active reload/ammo pickup/side roll etc. Its actually amazing that it managed to score that high. It must be doing other things exceptionally well.

I completely missed your post. So, you want Gears to not play like Gears? What changes you want? Gears FPS or dd Andromeda style combat where you can jet pack around and do ground pound and all?.  Can you give me list of sequels that fundamentally changed their gameplay loop.?

Outside of new God of War, AC Odyssey/Origins, Tomb Raider Reboot, MGSV and RE7. I can't think of any recent sequels of long running IPs which fundamentally changed their gameplay. RDR2 was more RDR with hardly any new gameplay changes, It was just more prettier and more refined. Metro Exodus was more Metro and new Call of Duty will still play like Call of Duty lol

What fundamental gameplay changes were done in UC4 compared to 3? UC4 combat was pretty much identical to 3 in gameplay. From meele combat to gun combat everything was identical. It was just more refined, fluid and prettier. Gun pickup and ammo pickup animations were still same as old UC games, just everything looked prettier and fluid.  Only new gameplay thing in UC4 was swing rope which was only useful in easier difficulty, on harder difficulty it was completely useless as enemies one shot you in mid air. You had to play UC4 like Gears by taking cover or you die instantly on harder difficulty. UC4 open levels were empty as well with nothing to do in them whereas Gears 5 open levels offer gameplay items which help in combat on harder difficulties like upgrades for Jack and powerful relic weapons. Gears 5 doing lot more new stuff that ND did it in UC4 compared to 3 if you compare gameplay feature by feature, plus its 60fps.

And same can be said for Forza Horizon and GT games which are near identical to each other but keep getting 90+. Borderlands 3 looks more Borderlands but bigger and more prettier but i have no issues with that because you really can't expect fundamental changes in every sequel. Changing core formula is risky and sometimes hurt franchise badly. Just look at MGSV and TR Reboot, i love both of these games but old hardcore fans hate em because they don't like the fact that core gameplay is completely changed compared to old games.

Gears 5 doing lot of things new compared to old Gears games and above all its 60fps on console which itself a huge achievement coz it's a rare thing on consoles. 60 fps in campaign and Horde cant be just ignored.

I criticized Gears 4 for playing it too safe but in Gears 5 they made meaningful changes imo
