it actually helps. Here’s how -

1) I am not counting i-frames. I am getting used to the timing of i-frames. Timing - that’s the important bit

2) by weight, I don’t mean literal weight. Weight here means how responsive the character movement feels.

I am very used to Tsushima and Halo right now. They have much different responsiveness or “weight” compared to Elden Ring movement

I last played Halo @ 120fps and Taushima @ locked 60. It takes time to get used to uneven fps in XSX

3) Tree looks a very standard training boss - a good practice of basics is important while starting a Fromsoft game

Agree on the first 2 points, but Tree Sentinel is not a standard training boss. While he can be killed early, you're not supposed to take him on early game. This can be seen by the requirements of the Halbred he drops. It requires a minimum of 30 STR just to wield it.

He is placed there to make you unlearn the tendencies instilled in you by other games. In most other games, when you see a foe in your path, you are supposed to engage him. In souls games since there is no hand holding in where to go and whom to fight, you often come across enemies that are way stronger and you will be ill equipped to fight them at that point.

A lot of new players come across these enemies and try to fight them getting killed over and over again. This then paints an image that Souls games are unfair and impossibly difficult. Just move past them or go to a different location. If you feel like something is unfair or impossibly difficult, there is always going to be some other place you should be going at your current level.

I enjoy this aspect of Fromsoft games

during my early Fromsoft games days, I could fight same boss over several days till I beat them. Never gave up on any boss, however hard or impossible it may be and I enjoy that quite a bit because I end up perfecting the skills required for a near-perfect play for my level

and it is also very thrilling and pulse-pounding

You're not giving up on that boss, just coming back when you're ready. But hey man, you do you. Whatever floats your boat

^ This ip is going mainstream.

Hasn't FROM games already gone mainstream with Dark Souls 3? DS3 sold over 10 million, DS franchise sold over 27 million in total...

Of course Elden had breached the mainstream in a way DS games didn't, i think roping in George RR Martin has worked wonders for them, that and the awesomeness of this game :wOOtjumpy:

Got the game today. Almost made up my mind to play as Samurai. Will probably pick up sheild later to parry. Gotta give away magic which sucks but I'll take it.

Who all are playing with Samurai.

I actually started as a mage character but then got bored of just staying in range and spamming spells. Really wanted to try the new melee mechanics such as guard counters, jumping power attacks, ashes of war etc. Started a new Samurai character and have been having a blast since then. Magic might look flashy and is very safe and easier than melee. But for me melee is more fun and engaging. The Samurai is great class with melee and ranged options to lure out enemies one by one.

The Elden Ring subreddit is now a gold mine of memes and funny stuff related to the game. Just a PSA for anyone playing the game and understands the references. :D

Yup. Some genuinely funny stuff in there.

This one (and the comments inside) had me laughing for a good 5mins

Too bad you're not gonna be able to hurl lightning javelins like motherf**king Zeus!

Can you even say this is a new IP? This is doing as good as a mainstream franchise would do.

From Software has kept on improving all these years. This one is a near perfect game. Beyond expectations and well deserved.

High hopes they keep up with their work and keep entertaining us with these awesome games.

Actually mage is not just spamming spells at distance. They are fragile unlike any other classes who can take f**kups damage and still stand. With that you have to be always on you toes, can't take any mistakes while you have to learn attack patters and use spells accordingly. Melee has always been in souls and magic class was very underwhelming but this time the magic and incantations are so vast the you would keep trying new abilities on enemies. You could do guard counters, jumping attacks and have many ashes of war in game.

You also can make a mage/melee character with mage class. There are no limitations. Not boring at all.
