I'm pretty much done with game ?. On Godfrey right now. I know elden beast won't be possible with my current build so kinda not that jazzed anyways. Godfrey is such an amazing fight though.

Radagon can be cheesed with any build I think. Which means you should be able to go with your full kit (Health + Mana + Potions) to Elden Beast.

Were you able to do Dragonlord Placidusax? Elden Beast is kind of similar.

So finally defeated Margit after like 10 tries this run

Me the entire time :-

sweating key and peele GIF

Was level 21 after farming and killing those dungeon bosses, shamelessly called the Sorceror Rogier summon and that jellyfish ash spirit thing( jellyfish was much better than the wolves for this fight )

I should have taken Astrologer as starting class instead of this Confessor, sword and board sucks + isn't as epic as all those spells.

I can buy some spells and a staff( and whatever else is needed for fire spells ) also respec now  right? Or is that gated behind some other boss?

Respec of talents itself is gated behind the main boss of the 2nd main dungeon (After you finish Stormveil Castle, the dungeon is called Raya Lucaria Academy). You need an item called Larval Tears each time you want to respec. This item can be farmed.

That said, Level 21 is quite low. You can easily put further stats into Intellect (Damage), Mind (Mana/FP Pool) and Vigor (Health) (all stats in that order), if you want to go caster.

You can buy your first staff from the Merchant in the Church, but I would recomment another staff - very near the starting area you can trigger a trap that will take you to a higher level zone. From there, you can flee and loot a staff nearby. It's called the Meteorite Staff, and has an S Scaling in Magic. It's a very powerful staff that will take you to end game. Other gear does not matter for now.

Near the chest of the Meteorite Staff, you'll find the Rock Sling Spell, which is one of the best spells in-game. You can also do a mini-dungeon near the starting area to unlock your first Sorcery Teacher, who will teach you all the basic spells, including the the ones that Astrologer start with. Main is Glintstone Pebble, which is the most Mana efficient spell in game. You can look at YT for the exact location of both.

Starting Class does not matter in this game. It just determines what you start with. Your path after that will be your own.

ELDEN RING: Patch Notes 1.04

https://en.bandainamcoent.eu/elden-ring/news/elden-ring-patch-notes-104

Lots of bug fixes. Rennala finally gets a fix for the annoying unplayable bug.

Lots of incantations buffed when I've finally finished my mage playthrough

This patch is taking forever to install on Steam

Just when I got off work and was hoping to resume getting whacked by giant eagles with sword-legs and red riding hood soldiers.

Fire spells(incantations) scale on faith, and use a seal.

The staff gives you the blue sorceries which scale on Int. This is not like previous games where you can use both pyromancy and Int spells.

You wanna use fire spells, go for a faith build. And for that you just need to reach the roundtable hold, which I'm guessing you would've already done.

@PhantomShade If you are going for Fire Spells (Or Dragon Spells) mainly - better get started on killing Fire Dragon Agheel. You will need to kill Dragons, get their hearts, and discover the Church of Dragon Communion - which is a chapel where you spend those hearts in a ritual that will teach you dragon spells. There are 2 churches - the demo one in Limgrave (Church of Dragon Communion), that will give you some spells, and the full version (Cathedral of Dragon Communion) in Caelid, which will teach you all Dragon Spells.

Dragon Spells require both Faith and Arcane btw (Int not required), along with a seal to use. Only Faith allows for Spells like Heal, Benediction etc., which I don't think are "Fire" spells.

Staff is used for Glintstone Sorceries (The Blue Spells - which give both ranged and melee spells) and Gravity Magic (Purple Spells). These scale with Int only, and don't need Faith or Arcane.

btw what is arcane stat used for then?

Int is for sorcery

Faith is for fire/lightning/heals

You need Arcane for Dragon Spells (Along with Faith). To even equip dragon spells - you need some Arcane. For example, Agheel's Breath (That you get from killing Fire Dragon Agheel) - to even equip this incantation - you need 15 Arcane and 23 Faith. These Dragon Incantations are not pure faith AFAIK.

In addition, Arcane increases your Discovery stat - which improves items dropped (More Items Dropped, Rare items dropped more frequently). It also reduces Holy Damage you take, and increases resistance to instant death spells. Some weapons also require Arcane to equip.

Frankly, IMO Faith + Arcane are not powerful build (Unless you are going to be doing major PvP from what I heard). In casting, Int is the powerful build for PvE/Normal Game.. Faith Incantations are very weak from what I've heard, with enemy mobs frequently able to interrupt you mid-cast.

Faith actually gives you a wide variety of spells aka incantations. Fire, lightning, dragon spells, healing, madness, defensive buffs, bestial spells.

Minimum Arcane is only required to access the dragon spells. Your spells will scale with your seals stats( which is usually Fth). Arcane is otherwise used for bleed builds to build the bleed status fast. ( Or any other status effect)

The main issue with incantations is the cast time. They're slow and you'll be having a tough time against fast bosses and enemies, requiring a Fth scaling sword. (Only catch flame and lightning work against fast enemies). But, they've reducing the casting time for a lot of incantations in the latest patch. Not sure how good it is now.

I am going for faith incantations which buff weapons and using affinities to enhance weapons in certain ways usually stacking bleed, magic or frost

So you don't use the spells themselves? both roun and jerush have said there are long cast times( which i assume means standing still to cast )

Basically I played DS3 using darksword + some shield at the start, and then with that fume ultra greatsword later on.

always was enamored by the fancy spells, especially lightning ones.

But if there's long cast time, what's the point? staying still is death here, 1-2 hits blocked from bosses take out my stamina bar right now.

It takes 1-2 seconds to cast and effect lasts 60-90 seconds sufficient for any boss if you do it just as battle begins

can recast at any time in the middle by taking a few steps back

In Int builds at least - vast times are very short for most spells. You can keep on casting till your mana runs out. Some spells also allow you to spam (cast continuouslywithout any animationat all), and they stagger enemies. Sone are melee/short range spam, like summoning giant swords that will hit enemies constantly and not allow them to come close to you. Sone are buffs, some are charged - which means they are Kameha-meha from DBZ, and will melt bosses, before the boss even knows what it's doing etc.

Later on, you will also have summons. They will tank for you. They are very tanky, especially when upgraded. This is especially true if you are using the Mimic summon - which essentially summons a 2nd copy of you - with your stats and gear.

You don't parry at all on a pure spell-caster build. You just dodge, gain distance, and nuke down bosses before they are able to come near you.

So I just defeated Godrick the Grafted on my third try

Not that i'm supremely skilled or something, but the dual axe wielding NPC summon and the jellyfish of memes were too much for that multi-armed boomer

would prolly take me many more hours without the axe woman tanking him, especially since his utter garbage aoe tornado move that he does around himself without much of a wind up, it makes it so frustrating to get some hits in :(

BEWARE OF SPOILERS. SOME SPELLS ARE SPOILERIFIC FOR LATE GAME BOSSES

The cast speed has been changed greatly especially for all lightning spells. Most of the spells shown here were pretty much impossible to use before the patch. And Scarlett Aeonia ?

Makes me want to start NG+

Well, it isn't that bad. Maybe I worded it wrong. You can try the starter fire spells and see for yourself. They require very minimal faith IIRC.

And there are a lot of Fth scaling weapons, and one of the best, you get at the roundtable hold itself.
