MightySkate
Guys, i need some advice on buying a dedicated external and internal hdd. I have my eyes set on WD (320 GB): http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=387. And if things go as planned i might go for an internal hdd as well, probably any size bigger than 400GB from WD again. What do you guys think? vinitwins
^ i purchased a usb 2.0 casing for 2.5" ide drives from ebay for 300 bucks (including shipping) - quick, easy and cheap way to convert any old laptop HDD into an external drive. V ps: you can do the same for a 3.5" drive as well - buy a usb 2.0 SATA casing for 3.5" drives and you're set.
MarketTantrik
Avoid using external USB casings for SATA drives. The controller chips for these casings are cheap knockoffs from China. While they are pretty reliable for PATA drives, the SATA to USB controller chips in these casings have a plethora of issues including, random loss of USB connectivity, random slow downs in transfer rates, frequent failures and disk corruption. If you want a cheap, quiet and reliable drive with a five year warranty, go for the Seagate Freeagent Desktop. http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/...top_data_movers Although these drives dont come with Firewire connectivity, their USB 2.0 performance is blazing fast and they are priced very competitively. I picked up the 320GB model 6 months ago for INR 6K.

lastAvenger
yeah thats dirt cheap because buying an internal 500 gig hdd costs like 6k over here. Are you sure, you got it that cheap ? because at Croma its pretty expensive. I know Croma jacks the prices but still. Btw in US, it costs about 150$ [ WD 500 gig external hdd ]
