^^ i dont think so Chaz ... the download speed does vary with the upload speed .... i feel a upload speed of 5 kbps is ideal ..... it gives me a download speed of 30 - 35 kbps ..... any higher or any lower, my download speed goes down .... (i use 256 kbps bsnl unlimited plan)

Well, I have tried varying speeds on 2 mbps unlimited at my dads office and 256 kbps at my place and it really doesnt hurt download speed. I get till 31 kbps my download speeds when upload is 30-31.

Yaa prolly depends upon service provider.

I am using You Telecom ( previously Iqara ) since 5-6 years.

Downloading torrents and sharing files

Users browse the web to find a torrent of interest, download it, and open it with a BitTorrent client. The client connects to the tracker(s) specified in the torrent file, from which it receives a list of peers currently transferring pieces of the file(s) specified in the torrent. The client connects to those peers to obtain the various pieces. Such a group of peers connected to each other to share a torrent is called a swarm. If the swarm contains only the initial seeder, the client connects directly to it and begins to request pieces. As peers enter the swarm, they begin to trade pieces with one another, instead of downloading directly from the seeder.

Clients incorporate mechanisms to optimize their download and upload rates; for example they download pieces in a random order to increase the opportunity to exchange data, which is only possible if two peers have different pieces of the file.

The effectiveness of this data exchange depends largely on the policies that clients use to determine to whom to send data. Clients may prefer to send data to peers that send data back to them (a tit for tat scheme), which encourages fair trading. But strict policies often result in suboptimal situations; e.g., when newly joined peers are unable to receive any data because they don't have any pieces yet to trade themselves or when two peers with a good connection between them do not exchange data simply because neither of them wants to take the initiative. To counter these effects, the official BitTorrent client program uses a mechanism called “optimistic unchoking,” where the client reserves a portion of its available bandwidth for sending pieces to random peers (not necessarily known-good partners, so called preferred peers), in hopes of discovering even better partners and to ensure that newcomers get a chance to join the swarm.

Most of the trackers are optimized to work in this way (a tit for tat scheme) It has nothing to do with the ISP!!!

^ Yeah the more you upload the higher your download speed should be, assuming other peers are using fair clients of course. Some clients will also forcibly reduce your max download speed if you set your upload speed too low (e.g. < 10kBps).

Even for non peer to peer upload/download your download traffic is generally given priority by the ISP. For example with BSNL 256kbps connections if you're downloading at full speed then you upload speed will drop.

Guys I am planning to upgrade/replace my Laptop with a Notebook or PC.

I read smwer about Apple iMac, the concept is really good, I liked that thingy very much, but in its review, its suggested that if u are a gaming freek, better get Dell XPS 420 @ almost the same price, that isaround 65000. And my budget is arount that only.

I need good HDD capacity ( above or equal to 200 GB )

RAM sld be greater then or equal to 2 gb,

Sld hv full HDMI support ( no matter PC/Notebook )

Above 2 Ghz processor,

Good graphics card ( atleast 256 mbs )

kindly suggest me some notebook or Desktop below 65000/-.

I think the XPS 420 is a pretty awsome desktop.

It meets all the specifications you require and plus it comes with that innovative LCD screen on the tower, which is pretty sleek.

XPS desktops pretty much are built for media and gaming enthusiasts so I think the 420 would be your best bet (preferably bundled with a 2 year warranty).

I know many people may jump me when I say this but here goes, you're always better off buying a desktop if you want a more upgradeable and dependable system even more so for gaming.

Good Luck!

Thx for the info mate,

btw Gaming is not a big thing, good HDD and 3 year reliability is what I am basically looking for, coz next year I might be going to canada for further studies and its for my parents use basically, so I wanna make up such a PC/Notebook that remains atleast averagely updated till next 2-3 years.

Guys,Just wanted to know how much would a HDMI cable(good brand) cost in the market....Can someone suggest me a good brand......

Brands dont matter since HDMI is digital. As long as the cable isn't broken it will be fine. Order one from PlayAsia. It costs about US$10 there.

Chaztin - another thing, imacs cant be updated in the future. if u wanna have a hdd with more capacity be prepared to throw the existing one since only one hdd can be fit in the imac. Its better to stick with the XPS 420 imo

Yes, I was looking at Dell inspiron notebooks lately they have good config ffor quite reasonable price. but again Upgradability wld be a prob.
