If you ignore (temporary) bugs and performance issues (on base consoles), it has GOTY written all over it.

The buggy mess it is right now, if it wasn't CDPR it would be getting Rekt in reviews.:P

It does but as you level up it gets better, its after the level 3 itself I got more confidence in the game once you get overall mechanics and get that rocket launcher.. I played on Normal... The DLCs are even more tough planning to play both at once when they launch with next gen updates..

I've been wanting to get into this but dreading those claw grips and what nots on the controller. How enjoyable is it if I hold the controller in the simplest way possible?  Claw grip is not for me. I am afraid of getting claw-finger syndrome.

I mean, the slayer is not running as fast as I want or moving the gun fast enough - I am finding it a little irritating. I will try to increase sensitivity. I am comparing it to D2016 where the slayer runs and guns silky smooth, I finished D2016 recently so the difference is stark for me. Controller change is also there, I played D2016 on Pro and now playing Eternal on XSX or maybe that I am playing on Nightmare difficulty which is affecting things

There is a setting called 'look smoothing'. I just turned it to zero and now it is significantly better! Gun doesn't feel as if it's going through a thick sludge. I am at the beginning on Nightmare difficulty - it seems manageable.

Check your FoV, high FoV makes things feel like they're moving faster. No difference in actual speed obviously.

In Eternal, it feels as if I am moving much slowly and seems like the gun is moving through a thick sludge. Stupid imps are getting better of me. In 2016, I could nail imps with ease


I felt the same thing initially, but as I leveled the Slayer up, it felt much better. In fact going back to Doom after Eternal made that game feel slow.

These settings solved everything for me: FoV - 110 and look smoothing - 0

 

Eternal is sooooooo good man! I feel that there is much more immersion and feeling of 'flow' than 2016. I just finished Level 2 on Nightmare difficulty and it's a blast - full-on adrenaline rush! Their game-play design is a marvel.

 

I feel that 2016 is quite simple and focused compared Eternal, which has much more complexity and every aspect is dialed up to 11. And the sound design is siiiiick!

I still somehow like the Doom -2016 reboot compared to Eternal. Don’t get me wrong, Eternal is an awesome game; but somehow i find it’s “arcady” nature a bit too much for my liking - guns floating in air, obstacles floating in air around which to jump etc. Further, i think the platforming in some levels like cultist base and few others was a bit too much - the 2016 entry was more focussed and went into action straight away. I also like the music in 2016 entry more that Eternal especially tracks like BFG division, Vega core, necropolis guard ost etc.

Where i like Eternal is focus on more lore and bit more varied environments. Both though are solid entries and enjoyed the games - though first one a bit more[emoji846]

I have died at least 50 times during level 3 on Nightmare difficulty, haven't finished it yet. During one fight, after killing 4-5 heavies, I thought I was very close to finishing the area but then I died and while dying I saw at least 5 more new heavies - I laughed hard :rofl:
But I am really enjoying the challenge and developing my muscle memory and instinct- there are a TON of tactical options!

Definitely. There is a lot more going on with Eternal. The game has no fking chill. And once you understand - and appreciate it, it's an amazing experience.
