PlayStation vs Xbox vs Nintendo thread

I do wonder about the fate of E3 itself though. Nintendo is out - they give out directs. Sony might just be moving in the same direction, which is fine for them. That leaves only MS at E3 along with Bethesda, Ubisoft, EA and SE. Of those, Bethesda is a flop-show and Ubi is a copy-paste show. MS, EA and SE are the only ones left who can even create some small hype, or E3 as a whole is dead.

EA doesn't officially do E3, they do a pre-pre show and then dump remaining announcements at MS conference like every other third party publisher. Ubi conference is basically shaadi ka band baja. Square does a proxy conference for Sony. Nintendo does have a huge presence at E3 though.

Yup, forgot about that. So MS, Bethesda and Ubi (SE will mostly dump it's info into Sony's State of Play or release their own trailers for PS timed exclusives like FF7R and dump everything else into MS Conference as well). So MS is the last hope of ESA. If they back out as well - E3 is pretty much dead.

Also, Nintendo doesn't do E3 Conferences. They do a Direct on E3 days. Which is basically a middle-finger to ESA since they are just riding off the E3 hype without paying ESA any money for actually coming and doing an actual conference. In a way, you can say they are pirating E3 basically. Don't know whether Sony and Nintendo will have gaming booths at E3 to try out demos though.

Eh, Nintendo rents out a huge show floor at E3 for Treehouse and public demos every year, and basically stays there for 3 days. They just don't use the conference hall for 2 hours.

Thanks for the info. Didn't know that. Still they must be saving quite a bit, not paying for conference hall, celebrities, executives transport - just to come and talk etc.

Last E3 had 66k attendance, the one before that had 69k. Gamescom for comparison has over 350k attendance. Plus they have higher viewership because unlike E3, most live events happen when the rest of the world is awake.

Lower attendance is explained by Sony skipping last E3 and not a customer focused event like Gamescom.  Agree with you on the viewership due to its timings.

This might be silly question

Will there be disc drive and physical games be a thing in PS5 and Xbox series X like it is right now in this generation of consoles?

Yes. Xbox series X is pretty much confirmed. See the disc drive in the console.

Hope you know how to google.

E3 was always a media event as far as I know, it's only since last few years they started making a transition to a consumer event. So comparing the attendance at the event is  pointless.

This is the point of contention between Sony and ESA. Sony wants them to be open to public while ESA wants it media and influencer event. Remember they're still going to PAX, Gamescom, PGA, TGS, Game awards etc on top of doing their own events. Just no E3. It was also open to public for first 15 or so years until ESA decided to make it private few years ago.
