Worse than Arkham Knight, just shows Sony doesn't care about their masterpieces anymore, now on, it's all gong to be live service trash from them, just look at all their recent acquisitions :bounce:

Sad but true..

Miss the old Sony & their leaders when SP games were their strongest suits. Now with Jim ryan leading (more like dragging) the SIE it's surviving on their previous accomplishments achieved by it's predecessors.

Frankly, it will not work.

MS tried everything on their very best generation - The XBox 360 gen. They had tons and tons of Japanese Games as exclusives and timed exclusives (Or the best performing versions) - including big name devs like Hironobu Sakaguchi and Mistwalker (OG dev of Final Fantasy), Square Enix, Bandai Namco, Capcom, Platinum, Team Ninja etc.

MS invested so heavily in Japanese Games that almost every new Japanese game announced was by default almost assumed to be an X360 exclusive or timed exclusive.

And yet, sale of X360 in Japan remained absolutely miserable. Seems Japanese people mainly prefer Japanese Consoles and Smartphones (Mainly Nintendo and Mobiles then Sony)

Also, good luck buying Sega and Capcom. MS will have to manage Gambling Parlors and Amusement Parks if they buy those devs. That's their main business

It was a joke.

I know MS will have more success going for Fortnite crowd than Japanese market.

I do wish however, they have more say in Japanese market. For console industry in Japan's sake.

Despite it being a small country with miniscule population, it is a 44 billion gaming market (US is 59 billion in comparison). Yet consoles are not doing all that great. Everyone is on mobile.

They simply don't take consoles as seriously and are ok with them getting marginalised. As long as PC is doing ok.

Is this using exact same map? That's weird.

It’s the same map because the game is still set in Hyrule.

However, the map is bigger than botw and expanded with more islands and new vertical traversal techniques.

Yes, MS taking Japanese market seriously would completely change the landscape of console gaming in Japan

Consoles are doing great in Japan, but only if the manufacturer is Nintendo. This is because Nintendo understands a home console will not work in Japan, those people spend a major chunk of their life outside home. Portable gaming has always been popular in Japan.

Neither MS nor Sony has a portable console.

Ps vita, which bombed everywhere, did very well in Japan and has so many japan only games.

How are consoles doing ok in Japan? Rest of the world, mobile and console gaming have 50-50 market share. Stop referring to Famitsu or whatever for gauging success.

This is 2021 data:

Japan is the third biggest market in the video gaming industry with a value of $29 billion in 2021, accounting for 16% of the global market size. With $2.7 billion in Console gaming, $22.5 billion in Mobile gaming, and $3.8 billion in PC gaming, Japan is among the top five countries in all segments and is the second biggest market in the Asia-Pacific region.

Historically, they have crafted success of blue print. Then they get out of the way.

They made blue print for console shooters. Then let third party run with it.

God of War owes a lot of its success to Halo. Especially how to create hype for a sequal. They launched Halo 2 in 2004 setting up Halo 3 in epic way.

This was copied by God of War 2 whole sale in 2007, setting up GOW 3. Then again in 2018, setting up Ragnorok.

This multi installment hype is what has driven GOW series to where it is today.

The fact that people are still buying 3ds in Japan tells a lot.

Miyamoto on design goals of Zelda and what franchise stands for :

"I wanted to create a game world that conveyed the same feeling you get when you are exploring a new city for the first time," said Miyamoto in a recently-translated interview from the '80s.
