AnK
This also pretty much means that M$ has admitted that cloud streaming is still a pipe dream. They are themselves getting into handheld hardware which is basically biggest competitor & roadblock to expansion to cloud streaming on portable screens. Lmao….though in all practicality it doesn’t matter which OS is being used but I’d wait a bit longer if that’s the reason for excitement. M$ is most likely going the windows OEM route now instead of propriety devices & API’s with designated dev kits. It's high time they unify Windows gaming and Xbox into it's own hybrid OS of sorts. Too much wishful thinking, but it will be insane. Like, have a gaming mode within windows which kind of shuts down unnecessary operating system functions, but offers services and kernel access to the software that is permitted to use it (like Steam, Gamepass, EGS etc). May be incredibly hard if such an OS level compartmentalization doesn't exist, but it will allow them to offer cross compatibility with full blown Windows and also leverage the OEM ecosystem for new devices (and launch their own variant of the device). Multiplatform Studios purchased post 2017 are pretty much a lock. Rare releasing their game also gives hope that Older studios might be contemplating a jump too. Gears Series & to an extent Halo Multiplayer are my personal wish list. But I know that those two will only show up if M$ has made up their mind to give away remaining market share to Sony.

I have gut feeling that by the end of 2025 we will start getting day 1 confirmation of PS release and trend that games will release after 6 month or 1 year exclusivity window on PS. Sea of thieves and grounded will sell decently on PS and no way in hell MS will not put FORZA or HALO now on PS. 5 games(incl Dusk Falls) published by Xbox will release by the end of April of this year on PS. Similar thing happened when PS games likes Quantic Dream games, journey etc started showing up on PC. MS said back in 2016 when they started shipping few games on PC similar stuff that don't expect everything but we know now that was a big fact lie. Team Xbox is the most confused & incompetent bunch of ppl on the planet. All depends on how much trust M$ has left in Phill. He personally is not happy excepting that he failed to deliver anything meaningful & now have to go multiplatform….it’s evident. If he can convince his bosses one more time to give him some more time (again!!) then we might continue to see titles like Starfield,HiFi Rush,Indiana Jones,Avowed,HellBlade 2 as 1 or more years timed console exclusives. Won’t make much of a difference though as these games ain’t system sellers. Only thing that can genuinely help move Xbox’s now is COD Day 1 GamePass at subsidised promotional prices. But they are just not straight up officially announcing or even directly talking about it yet.

My genuine question - does a big franchise like cod gets diluted because of Day1 on subscription service? Cod sells buckload and I think so perhaps it will not be wise decision to do day1 on subscription service? I can see them putting cod after 6 month of each release. Let’s just not go into what was wise or not. Phill in the past convinced his bosses that it’s wise to spend $100b & not only block that content from regular install base but also give it for free in hopes that they jump ship. Thankfully the regulators got in & forced M$ to completely drop that plan & remain multiplatform which further pushed them to go completely multiplatform. It would have led to major chaos in games industry. Thing is will Phill be able to convince them again & again to give him more time to pull some sort of shenanigan as no matter how unbelievable it may seem but a world where Xbox hardware grows & ppl buy all of their (now owned) first party on their own platform is any businessman’s wet dream. Everything is coming over. All these 4 ports took time so they must have made the decision when Starfield failed. I expect few more port announcement for the second half of this year. 5 port till April is impressive already. AnK
6 minutes ago, zoord said: they must have made the decision when Starfield failed. That was 1 tipping point but the real nail in the coffin was their inability to commit exclusivity to ABK games due to regulatory pressures. They not only had to increase COD deal to 10 years from the initial 2 but also offer it to new platforms like Nintendo & GeForce. On top of that they had to give away cloud rights to Ubisoft & god knows what else commitment to Sony in the final deal(as confirmed by both M$ & Jim Ryan). As some right minded journalist said….why the f**k would a company waste it’s time & money to focus on it’s own ecosystem when it can’t even lock the biggest guns in it’s arsenal as exclusives!! Just makes no sense.
zoord
The moment you got big publishers asking that, it's over. For a publisher of a big game last year questioning(according to the above video) why they even bothered to release on Xbox is pretty f**king huge. People are speculating it's Larian and BG3 or Capcom, but whoever it is, it's clear that unless Xbox gives you lots of money to be on Game Pass there doesn't seem to be much of a market on Xbox anymore. AnK
That’s why they are opting to go OEM route which eliminates the need for separate Development & Kits. Not to mention the tools!! Publisher are probably pissed becoz they have to spend additional resources and time to make series S version which will anyway sell like 1/10 of the total sale ( see Hogwarts Legacy 6% on Xbox). AnK
SeriesS sold like 75% of the total Series sales. But no one buys games on it as it was only a GamePass machine. Hardcore gamers who bought SeriesX are soo low in numbers that it’s quite baffling to expect developers to invest so much time, resources & efforts for two separate machines with different specs. If M$ just goes OEM route & joins Steam,Asus,Lenovo etc it would make a lot of sense & help developers a lot.
