PlayStation vs Xbox vs Nintendo thread

Recommended Posts

Why don't we all stop worrying about hardware sales , future of subscription services and financial results of gaming companies etc etc.

All these talks are getting old and boring and no one benefits/gains any knowledge . You can discuss for pages with different view points but at the end of the day everyone's opinion remains the same (which was already made up in their mind even before discussion begins )

Just enjoy the different gaming choices on offer and pay for whatever you like .

Ratchet no 1 in NPD beating out CoD and Mario Golf. People still love their 12 hr SP only $70 games

Also cheers to first MS game in top 20 after a while.

I'm surprised MG is even included. Such a bland game tbh.

Also, MK8, SSBU, BOTW, AC still in top 20. Holy hell !

True. They need to stop with these remasters(even though I buy most of it :P) and focus on new games.

Nah man. I'm loving the Wii remasters on Switch since I can finally play some of them with just buttons (HELLO SMG !).

Also Wii u did such poor sales that games like DKTF needed a port to the new console.

That said, we need at least one more Mario platformer before new Switch gets announced.

Consoles are typically sold at a loss in the early stages. They become profit making assets later down the line as chip manufacturing becomes more efficient etc.

Not the case with Switch IIRC. They were profitable on hw from D1.

BTW, https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2021/05/20-percent-of-switch-sales-now-going-to-households-that-already-had-a-switch/

Insanity.

Like I said, MS have other avenues to bring in subscription. It was clear that they didn't want to go head to head with Sony in terms of pure numbers. They introduced a more accessible console like the XSS to get more subscriptions. They want to get xCloud on Android/iOS devices which will be another avenue for them to increase subscriptions. Their end game is not hardware, its subscriptions.

GPU might not be popular with PC users yet and MS will need to tweak their strategy there. But overall, they are trying to build an ecosystem with Xbox Gamepass which won't have only the consoles as the driving factor.

No where did i say that consoles are the only driving factor. But to say that those sales don't matter is hilariously wrong. Those are by far the biggest sources of revenue for Xbox and would continue to be so for a long time. Streaming would succeed when it would, that is an unknown right now. As i said, their main sub sales is still from consoles, and unless something changes drastically, would continue to be. They don't have to pay 30% cut for each of their own game copy sold, like they have to on steam. They have 30% cut for each third party game sold on their system. They can't charge for online on PCs, they do on consoles. Just because they can't compete with Sony in pure numbers on that front, doesn't mean that it doesn't matter.

Not just bland, but also so thin on content. Charging full price for it feels wrong, not surprising, but wrong.

Absolutely, as long as they release enough new games, old ones can be ported. I guess I shouldn't have said stop making remasters rather, find a balance between remasters and new ones.

You're taking one statement out of context and blowing out of proportion. I was talking about the numbers game in relevance with Sony. MS don't care about losing to Sony, their business model has changed and their focus is different. Their entire ecosystem and 'as a service' model is their main revenue driver. Their acquisitions, future plans are all focused on making Game pass a lucrative option and make it platform agnostic.

Comparing only h/w sales figures between Sony and MS is like comparing apples to oranges - this was the point I was trying to make

Have heard skyward swords controls are still wonky. The GFX hasn't improved much as well. Pretty much the same wii title.
