This is the last generation for physical games , digital is already dominating 75 -80% . Also no publishers including everyone’s beloved sony want physical media and will be happy to see it go away.

These articles mean nothing if you look at the bigger picture and trends ,enjoy it till it lasts.

Don't bother lol

In Sony’s Q1 FY2021 financial results, the console manufacturer confirmed that 71% of PS4 and PS5 software sales were digital download.

Digital killed the gaming disc star

Quote

Sony also revealed that nearly 63 percent of its "full game" sales for the 2020 calendar year came via digital downloads rather than games sold on discs at retail. That's a significant increase from digital sales' 43 percent share in Sony's 2018 fiscal year (ending March 2019) and the 55 percent share in fiscal year 2019 (ending March 2020).

In 2020:

In 2021:

There was a little thing called a pandemic which started 2020 & lasted up until today

which kinda restricted logistics & stepping out ?!?!

So yeah I guess we shouldn’t bother until things normalise & the way they were going in 2018-19

lol don't bother. Next they'll tell you how theatres are dead because no one bought the tickets in 2020

All digital only consoles have bombed so far and the only reason PS5 DE sells is because its PS5. I would love to know which console maker will commit the seppuku first by launching just digital only console next gen.

What is the source of this

would really like to be enlightened

Had asked Zodak also when he said the same but he never shared

Sony's split was 50-50 pre pandemic till March 20 and According to their annual report this jumped to 70% digital for the next year till March 21. Ofc this being the peak pandemic period with stores being closed and people sitting at home doing nothing and sony having their biggest lineup yet + a new console launch lineup has nothing to do with that jump. :giggle:

So if tlou 2 sells 15 million and only 4-5 million physical discs are sold that's irrelevant because those few million units mean a few thousand people playing them. ;)

Honestly blows my mind how people handwave 30% revenue, especially when profit margins are below 10%. The drive costs 15 fking dollars, there's no scenario where dropping physical is a net win unless its something like 98/02 split between digital and physical.

Lol I swear

Also get this, sony will absolutely love to get more and more digital shares as their margins compared to physical are much much higher. But why should we be happy? Because our choice to play used games is being taken away or because sony is making more money?

Only MS shills who get 2 gamerscore points credited to their account everytime they post will be happy with such inane logic.

Once you go digital, it's hard to go back to physical.

I just had these old boxed games lying in my cupboard, taking space. So had to give them away.

Though I don't want physical to die. It's good to have options.

But having physical around so you can buy/sell used games is weak argument. If you don't want to pay full price, just wait for sale.

nobody has said any of the nonsense you have written above ,dont know how xbox came into the conversation. What happened in the other thread with you was totally uncalled for and it doesnt mean you will bait or troll in all the other threads.

its just a general discussion of where the industry is heading that is taking place , no console wars.
