So, Sony is being compared to EA/Activision now.

How far the standards have fallen.

EA did win America's worst company of the year, golden poo award, 3 times in a row.

Not being compared.

There should have been a cheaper upgrade path. There's no doubt about that.

However people tend to judge different companies, differently. That should be called out.

There should have been an upgrade path, no two ways about it.

Or free entitlement to PS4 version with the purchase of any PS5 copy

either of the two is a must as many ppl will upgrade to next gen in bits & pieces

Both Sony & EA misusing this fact to sell their Cosmetics & Collectibles that no one wants

Press is reporting because Sony is setting a bad precedent and normalizing this behavior. People like me don't bother speaking out when 2K or EA does this because I really don't care about most of their games. They are able to get away with it because they have annualized IPs that will be sold in the millions and these folks will shell out money no matter what. Sony has been "for the players" or rather used to be. And I care about the games they release and hence will have something to say when they make a sh*t move like this. This is normal human behavior. When something affects the things you love/enjoy, you start raising your voice.

Were you really bothered about Corona when it only affected China? I am assuming no. Did you lose your sh*t when it started showing up in India? Heck yeah. I hope this is easy to understand.

I agree with this analogy. However many/most, who are active here, already have ps5s and hence should be concerned with the ps5 version alone (which is the standard $70).

I'm sure many would wait till they get a ps5 and pull a trigger on this game. (Hence spending $70 at max).

Only a small percentage would opt for ps4 version of the game (upgradable to ps5 version.). And they are raising their voices, like @AnK

( He raised his voice when BF 2042 was unveiled as well, as such upgrade paths affect him. He's doing the same now. )

However a portion of members here were eerily quiet then, but are quite vociferous now (though they would pick up the ps5 version of the game), which is being called out.

That’s the whole point

you’ll almost see 10 articles & 10 fold shitposting now

but when EA did the same thing (much worse actually) you got to read gems like these

Everyone has their favorite corporation to bootlick, nobody's perfect.

They could have given a free upgrade path for the 1st 6 months (i think it has been done before for cod)  ,maybe that was a better way to go about it.

Also @radicaldude and @AnK what are you going to do? Which version are you buying or not buying at all right now .

You are trying to say Horizon is all of a sudden more popular franchise than Battlefield to have more ppl caring & giving more reactions?!?

Also the press is press….it doesn’t & shouldn’t care about personal interests but rather mass interest

If they are so inclined to have this topic blown into limelight then BF42 was a good enough game with mass appeal & the very first game this gen to set the “trend” of no free upgrades on simultaneous crossgen release

But yeah ppl wait for Sony’s news so that they get maximum clicks from the “more interested” crowd

It was not free

charge was $10 but the option to upgrade was available for 6 months

same with BF4

This generation is the only time when free upgrades were given for consoles on simultaneous crossgen releases

Now they have started to shoehorn unwanted content in the name of “crossbuy”

EA started now Sony following

Its not about Horizon. It is well known by this point that any PS5 news drives crazy traffic, so I don't blame people jumping on it, especially when Sony is providing free ammo. Austin farmed over 2 million views in a week with two clickbait PS5 videos, this is the current reality of media.

Yes, for xbhakts and their clicks and other kinds of "user engagement" what these e-mediawalas want.

BF is multiplat and nobody cares

Based on the sales on a single platform (PS consoles), it definitely would be.

It just has 1 game under its belt with 10m sales

BF as a franchise has sold much more on PS platforms for a lot longer years

But single platform wasn’t even the point

BF42 has same upgrade path on Xbox too

combined popularity is incomparable

I am not asking for free upgrades. Just for Sony to stick to what they said earlier.

At least freaking charge 10$ for upgrading the PS4 version to PS5. I still hate the fact that I should buy the DLC for GoT if I want the full PS5 experience with haptics. Let alone free upgrade, give the PS4 players an easy way to upgrade to PS5 version even if you aren't giving it for free.
