I've decided to go for a PS5 instead of an XSX despite having Gamepass for 30 months

I do plan to get an XSX after ~1.5-2years if I have saved enough, maybe not who knows.

Sounds like a plan, buying both is always recommended for best of both worlds... Getting PS5 now is a good plan.. Exclusives Matter !

PS5 is more powerful

w00t! But I saw multiple youtubers claiming xbox is a beefier system and a faster SSD ?? Especially the quick pause/resume/switch feature, I just love it. Will PS5 ever have that, maybe as a software update?

a faster SSD

Going by specs, ps5’s ssd does 5.5gbps raw while xsx ssd does only 2.4gbps raw

ps5 is true next gen custom hardware built from ground up while xsx has some components from xbox one console of 2013

Hey folks! My last console was a PS2, and my PC is too old at this point (GTX 760).

I've decided to go for a PS5 instead of an XSX despite having Gamepass for 30 months (bought it mainly for Age of Empires 4 releasing next week).

My reason being:

- XSX is more powerful but I don't have a 120Hz TV, infact I just bought a VU Ultra 4k 60hz TV.

- People say the PS5 controller is amazing?

- More online players on PS5, but I think I mostly will play single player games

- PS5 plus collection includes many decent games I want to play

- PS4 generation exclusives I want to play: The last of us 1+2, God of war, RDR2, Spiderman, Any one Uncharted game, Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone

Some regrets I will have

- Quick resume + quick switch seems the best thing ever as I play in short bursts

- XBOX Gamepass also has tons of games I could play on XSX. Monster Hunter world, all of EA games, Bethesda games, State of Decay 2, etc

- People say the PS5 controller gets drift issues in a few months?

- Will miss out on FREE day-0 first party games from XBOX

- Will save tons of money with gamepass

- Microsoft Flight Simulator, I think parents will love playing this

- 200GB more storage

I do plan to get an XSX after ~1.5-2years if I have saved enough, maybe not who knows.

I've mostly made up my mind, but have been out of the gaming scene for many years now so might have missed something. Any thoughts? :P

Good call.

Let me just add, Quick resume and switch are just QoL features, nothing you can't live without. The storage is not an issue, multiplats that use kraken compression are significantly lower size on the PS5, so you'll probably end up with more games on that smaller SSD comparatively.

Gamepass is easily the big differentiator that you'll miss out on. Lastly, PS5 gaming isn't expensive if you go with buy, finish, sell, buy route, trade section here is good plus India you can find preowned disks for good deals.

Happy gaming....if you can find one :D

Thanks Gecko, this is a huge relief to hear. I absolutely hate loading times and screen, noob question but do physical disks need to be kept in the ps5 the entire time, or is it only one-time installation/activation?

Sure but to be honest I think it might be a HUGEEE factor for me (but not a dealbreaker, I'll survive hehe). Like I said I tend to play games in very short bursts, being able to just resume from where I left without going through game menus feels like a godsend.

I hope this is not too time consuming ??, I've heard gameloot.in makes this easy (maybe a bit more expensive but that's fine)

Without the physical disk inserted there would be no way to verify game Ownership for physical games.

Also just my 2 cents in case you have 30 months gamepass and you anyways plan to get both consoles i would suggest to get the series x now and use it for 30 months and then get the PS5. Hopefully the slim model would also be out by then.

Thanks! That's a really smart suggestion and really tempting too (as XSX might be easier to get than a PS5).

Just one thing holding me back from doing that is that I really want to play some of the PS exclusives now and I don't think I can wait more for them (I already waited the entire PS3 and PS4 generation :P by being in the PC camp)

The PS exclusives might even start aging if I wait for another 3 years and I might have lost all interest by then, whereas I think MS might have upped their game and release more awesome exclusives in 2 years time

I will give you my 2 cents on a similar decision making process.

I was out of gaming for last ~5-6 years since I had a bit of higher studies, Work, other issues which left a little time for gaming. A couple weeks back, I had both XBOX S + PS5. I mostly game on the XBOX for the ease of downloading games off GP.

- Gamepass is a blessing - I have a backlog from last 4-5 years and access to last gen games is sometimes free and other times easy on Xbox. I do not need to find time to pack, ship, search and buy games. I could just download it off GPU and spent more of free time playing.
- Xbox controller - I have seen enough Dualsense breakdown. I do not want to deal with that. Rechargeable batteries are a boon too. I get 30+ hours of play time vs charging dual sense every 6-7 hours. I can just pop in fully charged batteries once the current ones run out.
- For when ever you need PS for playing those exclusives (Say 3-4/Year), just borrow the console from someone or consider buying it later.

All that being said, you already have enough points for both consoles. Both are great and will fit with different requirements of diverse set of gamers. Whatever choice you make you will still be happy!

PS - It might be easier to pick what your friends game on. You get a decent library support and friends to play with.

Thanks this is really helpful and I'm pretty much in a similar boat.

And yes I don't see myself doing that too often, but I think a service like gameloot.in makes it bearable!

Oh I wasn't aware about the charging time! That's a significant difference, and the more I read about the drift the more scarier it gets. So I stop reading :tease:

While reading your post I realised that I think there's ONE more possibility I missed. If I can get my hands on a PS5 now then I'll catch up with the exclusives I missed over the years then sell the console and get an XSX to use the gamepass. Sure I'll take a small hit but that's fine by me as I'll save more with the gamepass. I can probably then get the Slim model of PS5 again once it launches as rock suggested!

Anyways you're right! I'm definitely overthinking this. With the amount of free time I have (very less) I'll probably be happy with either!

Just go with games you absolutely want to play.

This gen I went with xbox cause I have played too much PS stuff. It has become too formulaic to me. I swear if I had to do another boss fight where my character did cool stuff while asking me to press X X X ...

Xbox feels fresh to me. Their approach to game design is different. You almost never loose control of your character in most of their games. Feels more sand boxy and system based instead of scripted.

But of course if you only have used PS2 then their games would feel good to you. Also PS does single player better IMO while xbox is better at multiplayer and social aspects.

Kraken compression and small file sizes isn’t an argument at all. Nobody plays even 667gb worth of games at the same time.

as for storage of non-currently-playing games, for both consoles, just get a 1.5-2tb external hdd (or ssd, if extra cash) to store other games

If you are from Delhi, there was someone in Trading post listed a Sealed PS5 but we don't allow sealed items so you can PM and check with him.. username - @m0h1t

@ox- that guy is selling above MRP. DO NOT BUY above MRP and give scalpers a reason to do what they're doing.

Xbox Series X uses the Xbox One’s South Bridge chip. Look up any XSX teardown video, the 1st MoBo that you see has this chip on it with “Xbox One” written on it. They just reused this from Xbox One in XSX
