PS4 120m & PS5 just 14 & yet it sells 50% copies. 
 

The real reason is that the hardcore AAA day 1 buyers are all mostly on PS5 & the ones on PS4 will soon upgrade to PS5.

 

Ppl left on Xbox are mostly all core or casuals who are happy with subscription stuff.

According to a latest report, Series S/X have sold around 8 million units against 13 million PS5s. The difference in install base is not even close to the difference in the amount of units sold of different games (based on numbers shown on this and previous page)

Yep Xbox is selling a lot better in comparison to PS than last few years. 
Infact the entire XBone gen.

 

& rightly so coz M$ is spending money like water to make a comeback & get its returns in the long run of cloud streaming prospects. 
 

It’s quite simple logic,only the ultra fanbase (which stuck with it even in the most bad times of XBone) & the ppl coming in to enjoy GamesPass are buying Xbox. 
None of them are really buying it to enjoy new AAA killerapp games on it. 
Even the ones who own both buy discs only on PS5 coz of the resale value.

Actually when PS4 sold 13 million units last gen, xbox was around 10 mill units. If anything they're actually even behind this gen so far.

Maybe they are selling to retailers and not the end user, as per reports.

Avengers showed up on PSnow much before GP.

But that’s not really the point.

 

Games that sell or do extremely well on retail have lesser & lesser chance of showing up on any subscription,

coz obviously the developer is going to ask a bomb for it. 
 

Even in GamesPass’s entire life I didn’t see any kickass third party that was poised to sell millions show up on it in first two years accept RDR2 of course for which they must have paid a nuke.

It was also Xbox’s darkest hour so they had to make a splash. 
 

Other than that & Doom Eternal showing up in first year for obvious reasons. 
 

I don’t see many killer most wanted games coming within 1-1.5 years(the max an interested gamer can wait) 

 

 

The real season why even the most wanted games like Hitman3,RE8,GOTG are not selling on Xbox is  that most of the crowd that bought it,didn’t buy the device with the intention of purchasing games. 
 

& then the games like Hades,Scarlet Nexus etc showing up also keeps them busy & out of time to actually spend money & buy more “backlog”.

Ponies are paying the bills for most of the AAA games being developed for last 3 or so years.

 

It also is not good in a sense coz tmrw the developers might actually start to rethink the need to have an Xbox port at launch.

 

Might make that port much later in the life cycle when it’s time to put it on subscription.

Developers are trying to reach as big demographic as possible.

 

Nobody is saying "we want less potential customers".

Timed exclusives don’t really hamper the prospect of reaching out to more demographics. 
 

Take Deathloop as the perfect example. 
 

It is selling like a AAA killerapp Day1 exclusive on PS5 in year 1 & will drop straight into the hands of ppl not willing to purchase it at full price. 
 

From a business standpoint it doesn’t make sense for a developer to invest soo much in developing an Xbox port early on without any sort of return on that port for the longest period,not until M$ pays up & takes it into the sub.
