Tbh, I prefer inserting the disc and having the option to download the game digitally.

It's faster than copying 50 GB or more from blu ray to console.

But it's understandable why it doesn't work for everyone.

I hope this was sarcasm.
or you have some ultra high internet?!?

Lawde ka smart delivery. Can't even figure out preloading their most anticipated game. Imagine millions trying to download the 30 odd gb together, it was basically self inflicted DDOS attack. Good game, shitty roll out. For 5 mins I wasnt sure why my updated game is still showing preorder in the campaign mode. Turned out that Xbox app was buggy and it didnt show the update till you restart it and then select the Halo Infinite Campaign option from drop down. And then bots say they dont have to jump through hoops.

The way Xbox allows pre-load is to let to you download the game but it stops you from launching it. I think the reason there was no pre-load is because both MP and Campaign have the same launcher. Since people already have access to the launcher via early access to MP, allowing campaign pre-load would give early access to campaign as well. Either that or they would need to split the launchers which isn't ideal for obvious reason.

So, if someone bought a game and he recieves it early, he can't play it coz the disc is feckin empty. What if he chooses to sell his physical copy some time later, what happens then?

There's no initial version of the game on the disc. Supposed to sell a blank disc?! And how do you pass ownership of the game to the buyer?

Because its stupid to deliver a disc without anything on it?

Disc is clearly meant for collectors, all others will play via gamepass. Whats the point of paying 60/70usd when there is no game on it? Not so smart delivery

Smart delivery is different. Its feature that allow users seamlessly upgrade last gen game to next gen.

Halo disc issue has nothing to do with smart delivery

I think Blu Ray is equivalent to a ~300mbps internet connection. So, it's possible if he has a better internet than that.

Disc not blank. Contains tiny file which initiates digital download automatically when u put disc inside. You need disc console all the time if u want to play.

Oh, ok. Guess that's fine then, just a matter of download which shouldn't be a problem to majority of users.

Not joking..

The only reason I prefer discs is because I can sell them if I want to.

Otherwise, digital downloads are so much better than copying from disc.

On average, it takes about 40-45 seconds to download 1 gb of data on Xbox and PS5.

That's faster than disc read/write speeds.

I think 100 mbps connections are getting cheap and common everywhere in the country.

Also on xbox you can just download the data from store before ever getting the disc. So you can get going immediately as you get the disc instead of waiting for copying.

I've already gone full digital. That's mostly because I'm sharing with my brother so we get to play at the same time. My last disc purchase was in the 360 days. :fear1:

Having tasted the convenience of Quick Resume, I don't think I'll ever go back. Which reminds me, QR in Infinite is broken AF. The game works but stutters. Probably a memory leak or something.

45 seconds to download 1gb would mean around 30 mins to download 50gb of data.

I don’t think it takes that much time to install the same amount of data from disc to drive even on HDD consoles.
Can’t comment on SSD consoles but it should be much faster than HDD.

It has always taken me mere seconds to boot a game from disc onto PS4.

It takes a lot more.. the PS5 install is also very slow from disc.. the downloads is actually faster..

Quite strange

It’s a downgrade from PS4 then.

It never took me more than 1 minute to boot a game on PS4 apart from Fallout 4, which sort of doesn’t allow to be started unless full file is installed & does take more than 30 minutes.

Clicking a button does not mean "hoop".

Also, good job assuming things.

just read these hoops on PS https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2021-03-20-transferring-a-marvels-avengers-ps4-save-to-ps5-should-be-easier-than-this

it's on spiderman, avengers, ghost of tsuhima etc. wherever there's a cross gen title

smart delivery cuts through all of that manual hassle, no need to click even a button
