Honestly, from a business perspective, the guy is a success. He did actually turn around MS strategy to create an entertainment box for your living room to focus on a subscription service people can't say no to. And, Satya is not a fool to invest in a guy without seeing the potential. I am not gonna complain about MS lack of games anymore because they are prepared to churn out high quality AAA IPs a year or two down the line. Whether they will achieve it or not remains to be seen but people need to wait and see before judging them again.
AnK
& wait for it to be called a “Lifetime of Success” too. I can start a successful subscription service tmrw if all I had to do was buy & give for free…. Edited March 9, 2022 by AnK

Strategy is clearly working. It's not like he's depriving his studios of wealth by giving for free. On a serious note, Phil is generally loved by the gaming community, irrespective of the platform they're on. Not sure why you're against him or think he doesn't deserve the praise. How he is going to increase the profits remains to be seen.

I’m just pointing out the obvious truth. obviously under the Microsoft umbrella they were never deprived of funds & were never going to be. They started spending this much after three generations of behemoth losses. (counting OGXB,RRoD,Kinnect here) obviously wealth was never a problem. But Lifetime of individual success?!? I don’t so:- 3 minutes ago, b!T said: remains to be seen.

MS behaviour is quiet unusual for sure. You don't need to spend 70 billion to sell consoles. Just a couple of big budget games per year would be enough. On the other hand, they clearly have games like Halo Infinite that have immense potential. Looks like they aren't interested in realising it, instead are just catering to core fanbase. Wondering how they take decisions like these.

Destiny would still have been a Halo IP & had been Xbox exclusive for the entirety of PS4 gen. if they knew how to realise it properly. ActiBlizz 70Billion was definitely more than selling consoles. Think they're after the mobile gaming pie with King and also the PC space. Strategy is working because its cheap right now and in early stages where no other player is doing the same. Ultimately it will all come to Quality of games where MS lacks big time. Acquisitions means nothing when you have the same old Halo and Forza as front runners. This company only ruins. Maybe yes they will start to formulate a plan now for mobile games & even expand GamesPass there. But I don’t think they made this purchase with King in mind…..that’s just part of the whole sweet package.

That's the point. Their decision making has too much of a big company feel and doesn't always make sense from the outside. With Phil at least we are getting games on top of what ever adventure they are going on.

They aren't hyping up the updates properly. Edited March 9, 2022 by Vaibhavp

Peter Moore was the guy who’s success both Don Mattrick & Phill Spencer were feeding off on till the day $atya stepped in to give $pender a free hand on building GamesPass. Life time achievement of $pender that is?!? I don’t think so. Life time achievers in gaming business are ppl like:- Ken Kutaragi Shigeru Miyamoto Shue Yoshida Mark Cerny Gabe Newell Tim Sweeney etc. Someone who just sitting there at the right time in the right moment & has the timeline advantage can’t be labelled an achiever. I have nothing against the guy….he is genuinely very humble towards developers & gamers… …but successful,I don’t think so.

Dunno about Spencers achievements but he does mention game quality as being utmost priority in interviews. This shows with Psychonauts 2, Deathloop, both of which were delayed to achieve very high quality. Previous xbox games could release in a bit of a messy situation, that's not happening any more. Like seriously man seriously…… For one instance I thought I could have a sane & sensible conversation with you….…..I guess not. Quantum Break was Spencer, Psychonauts 2 was not. Scalebound,Phantom Dust,Fable Legends,Project Spark was Spencer,Deathloop is not. Crackdown 3 was Spencer,The upcoming Elder Scrolls’s & Call of Duty’s will be not. You really need to realise what this guy did with the Xbox brand before Satya just decided to rebuild it with new money.

AnK
Credit of what exactly dude?!? It’s just the spend of xyz money so far Start a games subscription service (which is pretty evidently happening in all of M$ software businesses) is not really a rocket science idea….which was started with PSplus to begin with. <===Buying & Giving ===> seems real big achievement ha?! That too with a daddy of endless pump.
