PlayStation vs Xbox vs Nintendo thread

Recommended Posts

That 5.5GB/s sounds great but having seen so many PCIe 3.0 vs 4.0 tests, I am not really sure how that advantage will translate into gaming performance.

Also, Cerny mentioned that MOST games will run at those CPU and GPU frequencies at MOST times, which gives me the impression that they are counting on not every game needing full 10.28tf at all times and hence will not continuosly max throw heat.

While Series X will be locked at 12tf, so Microsoft has made sure that cooling solution is robust enough to handle the heat being generated at all times.

This might play off better for Xbox for games later in the generation which will need all the power they can get, the ones in which Ps5 might underclock.

Only a speculation though.

Also, no quick resume being shown off or anything, I guess either they are waiting to show it later or Microsoft caught them off-guard with that. But with that SSD, I think they can easily implement it. I don't see the point of 825gb though, maybe trying to undercut Series X by few bucks.

Excited about the audio engine and UHD BD player. What's the generational leap compared to last gen? Is PS4 to 5 a bigger jump compared to PS3 to4? Did they show the controller yet?

Edit: spoke too soon about the audio bit. Sounds like a very complicated implementation. "Per ear basis"? "Send us a pic of your ear"? That's crazy talk, Cerny.

Honestly though, if that SSD thing is real and turns out we can get into games from standby as fast as on the Switch, everything else is just bonus.

Bigger jump compared to PS3->PS4 because every fking thing has a custom chip from audio to data decompression to ray tracing to storage. On PS4 poor Jaguar did everything.

They were Very forthcoming at the things that might not be available at launch.

-The off the shelf expandable ssd drive might not be avb at launch because none of the 3rd party ones are as fast as the one built in.

- some ps4 games might not work or will require patches because the ps5 will automatically play ps4 games in boost mode

- the 3d audio for normal tv speakers also might not be avb at launch but headphone mode will be in.
