So their whole bringing ads into Gamepass games is a way to introduce higher tiers, which you can now buy to disable ads as well just like YouTube premium.

Wait what? Are you telling me in the middle of some game you'll be forced to watch some random ad?

You really thought after distribution of free games on minimal $ scheme & then facing a rebellious attitude at the first sign of increase in subscription price….

…..M$ would never think of going this route?!?

Why not... but I think there will be certain time limit to this... so for 30min or 1hr of gameplay you will get an ad... but i am all speculating as to how this is going to go down.

No matter how they put ads on the system, there will be a high tier subscription to disable them.

They want more moolah from your gulak.

Nope i expected them to increase the rates over time. Either way IF a higher tier is reasonably priced it would still be good value for someone who plays a ton of games over a year.

I think that is really intrusive. They might go with product placements and shameless plugging but forcing to watch an ad like mobile games is f**ked up if true,

How will product placement work for third party games? that is too much of a hassle...

You can’t really build a subscription base of 25m & counting on the basis of these schemes & then expect it to grow on same pace once the schemes end.

They tried to increase xbl gold price & it led to a riot from the ppl who had just invested in a New Xbox console in hopes of these schemes.

They are clearly looking for other means of revenue generation now.
As they know they can’t project these subscriber numbers once ppl are asked to start paying appropriately.

They wanted to be Netflix of gaming but clearly see now that Netflix didn’t attract ppl with free rides but rather content that ppl wanted to pay for.

So YouTube is the next stop.

The whole idea of pulling people into GP and buying tons of studios and talent puts MS in a position to develop enough games to integrate a pretty robust placement structure.

“Unlike the EA and 2K examples, however, these ads will only appear in free-to-play games and will take the form of things like billboards. As opposed to the kind of pop-up ads you see in mobile games.“

This is all coming from speculation tbh. Product placement can be as simple as cross brand promotion like mountain dew inspired skin or a random in game billboard to full blown events or DLC like how Fortnite does or the hot wheels/ LEGO dlc for Forza.

This is exactly how it will be implemented ,no way MS is f**king things up again by forcing these ads.

f**king up what exactly?!?

It’s not like they are earning down to their guts (no literal meanings pls) that they will f**k something up & will stop receiving a steady revenue stream.

In fact they still have to figure out what their steady revenue stream for the newly designed business model is!!

They just have gobbled up a large chunk of studios & their respective franchises (along with the three they already had).
And the “subscribers” who came looking for free rides.

They still kinda have to figure out how to start earning if they don’t want the traditional sales model or the new high class subscription model.

This is actually a good way to have low tier subscribers keep clinging on.

If ppl don’t want to buy games, don’t want to pay a respectable subscription amount & then don’t even want ads in their play sessions!!!

Then how do they really want to pay back for their entertainment needs?!?

It’s not like Mother Teresa will keep feeding them for free forever

Didn't realise 5 bn a quarter is not considered a steady revenue stream.

Tell them to disclose the profit numbers coming from GamesPass & Xbox royalties next time.(yeah even the battery ones)

Maybe then we’ll know how steady it is.

No bifurcation of GamesPass or Xbox revenue.

& not even a hint if the spendings on acquiring Publishers/Studios/IPs/Exclusivity/Day1/Subscription

deals are being accounted for in the same division.

Yeah nice of you to be part of the conversation.
But it didn’t add anything meaningful, kthxbye.
