Extremely hard core tech session. This session comes from guys at free60.org. Free60 is a project towards porting GNU/Linux, BSD, Darwin and related open-source operating systems to the Microsoft Xbox 360 video game console.

ABSTRACT: After the disaster of the original Xbox, Microsoft put a lot of effort in designing what is probably the most sophisticated consumer hardware security system to date. We present its design, its implementation, its weaknesses, how it was hacked, and how to do it better next time.

Speaker: Michael Steil

Michael Steil has been involved with various embedded systems hacking projects, like the Xbox, the Xbox 360 and the GameCube. In 2006, he has spoken at Google about the flaws in the security system of the original Xbox.

Speaker: Felix Domke

Felix Domke is the principal author of the Xbox 360 hack and the Linux port. He has also significantly contributed to hacking the dbox2, the GameCube and the Wii, and porting Linux to the respective platforms.

--------------------------

Also at the end of the slide they present all the consoles that were hacked with the exception of PS3. The reason they said was (43:46),

"PS3 security system is similar to XBOX360 security system but it still not has been hacked, because on PS3 provides a means of running anything you want, via run other OS. So hacker & homebrew community has no real reason to hack into PS3. Thats great from SONY's strategy, learned from PS2 & PSP. Sony has protected PS3 from hackers by letting them do anything they want to"

And yes guys I am aware of RSX exception. Thats just from the preso. Those who are interested in system internals its a much watch.

Go see how XBOX 360 security system works and what it has to do with IBM's power architecture.

Ohhh... The hackers are so happy with Sony that they would prolly never harm the system in any way! :P  :P
