Credit Card - Help & Recommendations

After booking the onward journey of my upcoming trip to the US, I decided to take a break before I start looking for the return availability.

Was not expecting much out of this, certainly no premium cabins like QR/SQ/ANA etc. because of the following reasons:

1. Did not have points in QR/SQ (SQ hardly opens promo J to partners).

2. Return was supposed to be from Boston and as compared to NYC, not enough flight schedules and hardly anything opens up except last minute LH/LX.

Since I had the exact dates and airports dialed in (did not want to reposition), I decided to do a very lazy search for the same.

Had no intention to book, just wanted to quickly check the landscape.

Opened TK, added in the details and I could not believe it. Turkish Metal (J) available at promo rates, the exact airports and the almost perfect date.

TK metal (J) at promo is like finding a unicorn. Before I got QR on my onward leg, this was supposed to be my moonshot.

Took 10 mins to just double check, turned on International txns again on my card and booked it!

This was the best case scenario for this route. TK is great at hospitality (a notch below QR/SQ/ANA but still, premium).

BOS-IST on their 787 cabin and IST-DEL on their old but still decent 777. Plus TK biz lounge at Istanbul.

Only bummer was not getting Atlas in time to book this and my CITI Prestige failing, had to use Magnus but does not matter.

This whole redemption has been a dream come true, could not have asked for anything else.

Conclusion: Gonna be travelling TK J on return. I think after this, it is quite clear, miles FTW.

Supplementary:

1. Costed 52.5k miles + 27k in taxes. (Both TK and QR have high taxes but they make it up with lesser miles requirement).

2. Similar TK J going for 3.62L, giving value of 6.38 Rs/mile (post deducting taxes). Absolutely amazing.

3. I transferred 10k miles from Axis to TK when they had a 2x promotion running for Atlas, knowing Axis, I took a chance with Magnus and ended up with 20k miles.

4. After adjusting these 10k extra miles (basically free), values comes to be 7.88 Rs/mile (post deducting taxes). This is unreal.

5. ANA: All Nippon Airways, SQ: Singapore Airlines.

I want to upgrade my existing HDFC CC and/or get a new one. Last week I was fully occupied with some stuff, this week I got free and want to go forward with CC upgrade

1) my current HDFC CC is my first Regalia First card with 8L limit. I got a system generated email from HDFC to upgrade my card to Regalia 1-2 years ago but I missed upgrading at that time. I upgraded the credit limit on my card when it was offered

so I plan to visit my HDFC branch this Saturday and ask for an upgrade. I have a healthy FD with HDFC with auto sweep-in, hopefully that’ll be helpful

I also have Imperia banking

My question - Should I visit the branch or email CC grievance redressal or talk to my RM? Which route will give best offer for upgrade?

2) I am also interested in SBI Cashback card for good cash back on online spends but it doesn’t have competitive cash back for offline spends @ 1% - my offline spends include groceries and monthly stuff from nearby d-mart or star bazaar and other offline shopping from various stores. Axis Ace seems best for offline spends @ 2%

Should I go for both sbi cashback and Axis Ace?

3) how should I evaluate cashback cards vs reward points cards?

Go to the branch and talk to the RM regarding this.

Email or calling CC will only result them telling you to send payslips/itr and other documents to Chennai office. At branch RM can do it better.

Guys is this a good offer? I use Google pay frequently. And sometimes Zomato Swiggy too. Currently i only have ICICI Amazon pay credit card.

Google pay for what ? Because this card wont work on UPI network.
Also Why not SBI cashback then, flat 5% on Zomato Swiggy and also can get on utitlity with a trick (Working now can end anytime)

If you have a lot of offline transactions then this card is good. flat 2%

Oops. For some reason I thought meant Google pay upi will spends will give cashback .

Which SBI card do you mean? I don't like SBI because their apps and net banking always seemed to break in some way or the other. Ive had much smoother experience with ICICI and HDFC.

Sbi cards new app is legit good man, and i have had zero issues. For online spends i would suggest SBI Cashback. For upi, tata neu infinity (Ltf miljana chaiye). 1.5% back as neu coins on all upi spends above 40 rs. I have had flawless experience with both sbi cashback and hdfc tata neu infinity.

Also cashback card gives 5% on almost all websites ( Goverment , ultitilies (Work around there) , and some other exclusion)

i have got 5% back on shiprocket, shypmax , e2zstore, and so many random stores

Starting me aaya tha offer, phir nhi aaya.

I mailed HDFC grievance about how I was applying and the app crashed, LTF offer went away and they have asked me to contact Neu customer care.

That was a mistake.

Neu care can't do anything in this.

Now wait for couple of months.

Mail hdfc grievance again stating firmly when you applied it showed LTF and you want a confirmation for the same. They will do it. I did it the same way. Moment card came sent them the screenshot of ltf offer stating them to confirm and they confirmed it when in reality when I applied it was fyf offer.

It's a good card to have but very tough to obtain. I have tried both with my father and wife's sim and denied at entry stage itself.

I have 6. I don’t think it will go beyond 10 at any point. There are people who have over 50, mainly low level ltfs.

You are quite on the mark. I got my first credit card (icici platinum) in 2005. Had a Citibank for a while, axis, standard chartered but close them of all and only icici remained. As I am self employed getting cards is tougher than salaried people.

However since last year I became aware how useful they can be for various purposes.

So right now I have-

Icici platinum ltf (oldest)

Icici Amazon pay ltf(only for Amazon)

Hdfc business Moneyback ltf ( only got it for instant discounts and will be trying to get this converted into Millenia)

SBI Elite

Amex Smartearn (will ditch this and get mrcc or gold next time)

PNB Rupay Platinum ltf(only for Rupay upi)

Hdfc infinity ltf
