Ethan_Hunt
So I've been playing Yakuza 5 for about 20 hours now and just reached the part with Akiyama. I had a lot of hopes pinned to this title considering the scope of the whole game, but till this point, I'm disappointed with it's narrative. Yakuza 4 had me totally hooked right from the beginning to the end. This game, for some reason, doesn't seem to have the pace that 4 did. Saejima's story being the worst offender. His previous storyline at least made sense, but this one just seems to be completely absurd. Kiryu's start was OK I guess. Each time I feel like there will be a boss fight, it ends up me fighting horde of enemies. I didn't find the locale changes to be that appealing to be honest. I liked Kamurocho and Sotenbori. Kiryu's map is fine, but Saejima's area is truly awful with so many invisible blockades and you can't even cross the street mid-way. On top of that, the over-the-top crowd density means you'll be bumping into literally everyone on the street. Then there's the constant random fight encounters. I swear this game has so many of them and it's placed literally a few steps apart from each other. With Saejima, I was on my way to complete a sub-story and found myself in 3 back-to-back random street encounters and it got extremely annoying. I like the addition of the restaurant food skill boosts that you can receive if you complete Tatsuya's gourmet training. It's good to have an additional layer of health bar on your player. Can't believe I'm saying this but I Haruka's story arc turned out to be the most engaging for me till now (). Her gameplay is largely rhythm based but the main storyline and sub-stories are quite fun. Don't like the twist that just happened, but let's see how the story progresses. Hope the build up leads to a redeeming finale. *fingers crossed*
hazard12345
Completed Yakuza 4. Best story and fun since 0. No wonder because there were multiple characters other than kiryu. Edited April 9, 2022 by hazard12345
Ethan_Hunt
Done with Yakuza 5. I had wrapped up the main storyline a week back and managed to complete all the sub stories, side stories, maxed out all characters, hostess stories and Master trainings in Premium adventure. Beat the Amon last night and ooh boy, it was a breeze for almost every character except Kiryu. He always seems to get the most annoying Amon in every game. Glad it's over now. I'll just say this very briefly that I was disappointed with the main storyline of this game; it was so convoluted, underwhelming and dragged out. In fact, I'll be honest and say that everything I mentioned above that I did apart from the main storyline had me more engaged and invested in the game. The amount of content this game offered was insane. I mean this is the first game that has a main storyline and sub stories, but they went a step further and added side stories, which essentially have their own mini-main storylines and connected side missions. I know it's feels very complex as I'm framing them, but believe me, as soon as you start playing them, you'll understand what I mean. In conclusion, I think the main storyline was average and forgettable (possibly the weakest in the Remastered collection), but everything else was really good. I'm going to instantly move onto Yakuza 6 now as I need to finish Kiryu's saga; it's been long overdue. First time playing Yakuza tittles back-to-back, wish me luck. hazard12345
Done with Yakuza 5 main story and the remastered collection. Pretty weak story line for Saijema and that baseball guy, and they were pretty much getting on my nerves. Haruka storyline was the best followed by kiryu only because of that 1 man army scene and driving taxi by following all driving rules. hazard12345
Stated Yakuza 6. It's like I am back in 21st century. Text Boxes gone, city looks amazing.
Bauji
Reached chapter 4 of Yakuza 5. Its a snoozefest so far. All the side stories so far are also uninspired, dull and boring.

All the side stories so far are also uninspired, dull and boring. After exactly an yr & 3 months, finished Chapter 4 As mentioned earlier, found the substories boring and lifeless. Main story is filled with cutscenes which are way too long and full of philosophical, sleep inducing gyaan. Taxi missions are very annoying. You are driving carefully, following all the rules, keeping an eye on the pedestrians then suddenly an NPC will spawn just few meters away from the road and goes full Usain bolt towards the taxi. Put on brakes and there is penalty for sudden brakes, hit the pedestrian....restart. Either the Yakuza formula no longer works for me now or this is the worst Yakuza game. Havnt felt like this, even with Yakuza 3, which felt the most dated among the Yakuza games I've played. Dont want to skip it and jump to Yakuza 6, so hoping for the game to get better later. Bauji
Currently playing Haruka's section. While I sat in front of tv, a grown man who is nearly 40, pressing the button prompts for a dance battle and a teenage girl was dancing....it was one of the rare occasions, I started questioning my life choices as a gamer 😅🥲 IF I am able to stick to this game till the end, it will be the most boring game I've ever finished. Sticking with it so far because of the guilt of buying and leaving so many games unplayed.
Bauji
Game has redeemed itself a bit from part 3 onwards. Liked Haruka's story arc, sub stories and side missions. My favourite character from Yakuza 4 returned and I didn't have to bother about random fights while roaming the streets as Haruka. Won the princess league too...yay!! Then there is the new character, Shanada, introduced in part 4. Dint like the character much, but his story arc was good as well. Going through the final act now. Can finally see little bit of light at the end of this very long and boring tunnel.
Bauji
And the game went from bad to worst in the finale. Felt like an 8-10 hours game, stretched more than a roomali roti to 40+ hours. Entire finale chapter 2 for example was just talk, talk, talk for close to an hour. Which felt like an eternity because it was so damn boring. After every 20-30 mins, game verifies that you havnt fallen asleep by asking you to walk 4-5 steps to trigger the next cutscene. I was like - Then came the finale chapter of the finale. Starts with 2 protagonist fighting dozens of regular enemies just to increase game's length...followed by the other 2 protagonist doing the same...multiple boss fight-long cutscene combos without any save point in between. I tried twice and then when the third time I had to stop the game in between because of some or other reason, that was it with this game. No respect for player's time. Worst, worst game Watched the rest of the chapter on YT and when it ended, felt a strong urge to start Y6 right away though. My ranking for all the Yakuza games played so far: Y0 >> Y2 > Y1 > Y4 > Y3 >>> Y5
