In case someone has not played the forgotten city, please do play it. Its the best story driven game i have ever played. Its absolutely amazing especially if it's kind of free.

Interview: Back 4 Blood Dev Explains Why Game Pass Is So Important for the Game

Quote

I think something like Game Pass is awesome because it removes the barrier. If it is not something you would normally play, but it seems like a social thing and you’re more of a social player, but it doesn’t really cost you anything to try it out, you go in, right? So we will hopefully get those players and reach out to a wider audience than we would have otherwise. I think it’s going to be really good for the game. It’s good for us to have both [kinds of players]. As a studio, we are excited about the prospects.

But... Conventional wisdom dictates that games should NEVER release day 1 on a sub service. It reduces the game's value and severely affects the studio's monetization prospects.

Right?…. Right?

Depends on the type of game it is and the potential of it selling decent numbers at full price at launch.

Don’t bother

Apparently BF42 & B4B is the exact same for some.

Ppl even compared Outriders with Borderlands ……what else can one argue beyond that point :giggle:

Some folks here are dead against anything Gamepass. It was targeted at them. I agree that it depends on the game. For a lot of niche games or new IPs, gamepass can easily help them become popular. Kinda like what Netflix did with picking up dropped but critically acclaimed series or even bankrolling/supporting varied content.

If you are gonna put your established IP on gamepass day 1, then it is likely that MS is paying shitloads of money. But I don't see anything wrong in it. I am fine with Gamepass existing as long as I still have the choice to buy what I want.

Exactly. GP gives exposure to lesser-known lesser people willing to pay day 1. It becomes very discouraging to see your game not getting attention just because it is not from a popular/established franchise.

Why would EA or Ubisoft or Rockstar or any non-MS company put their game on GamePass when they can sell it first for full price first? The majority were not willing to pay for Outriders or Back 4 Blood but thanks to GP they got to play. MS pays the studio -> people pay for sub -> enjoy the game while publisher their money without having to wait for people to buy or end up being flop. It is a win-win for everyone involved...except for salty people still trying to downplay what GP is.
