As it was a full free promotional conversion. Xbox Live Gold was also the cheapest as it was just $30-45 a year in cheapest regions & Xbox allowed region switch on the fly. Everyone who was an active Gold subscriber was a GPU subscriber basically. I think after a lot of back door negotiations with Regulators & Competition….Xbox has finally started to close back doors & almost kill the honeymoon period for subscribers by 2025 when COD will be part of GamesPass. M$ has got themselves into a very very tricky & thankless game. It’s very easy to lure ppl with lucrative promotions but once they get used to it it’s equally difficult to sustain it. As long as they don’t start charging that full amount of $18/month asap it will be very difficult for them to project 100s of billions worth of investment they are pumping into gaming. 2025 & beyond when COD drops & they’ll be loosing billions more in yearly revenue which Activision was making it would be even more difficult to sustain at anything less than the full GPU price. Gali toh padni he hai ab but atleast they survived next gen launch & have built a strong gaming fortress around them in the meanwhile. Subscribe when a big game drops, play couple of months, unsubscribe till next game arrives. Right now am subscribed all the time but a lot of time don't play GP titles for a couple of months. Then they started investing in RPG heavy studios & Zenimax which in itself was trying to turn into a service based publisher. Now it’s all about COD,Diablo & Overwatch. Their entire plan depends on large scale WRPG(preferably with episodic content)& Service based FPS’s. Sustaining with good quality 10-30 or so hour campaigns is not feasible for them.
