Finally !! Wonder what'll happen to that steam/ea play offer now though

Also, so many games, so little time to play :(  trying to squeeze some 30 mins every day, but on some days even that becomes tough !  WFH is such a sham, we work far more than we would've worked at office !

Some days, yes, but most of the week you (I) get more time to play.

On average, according to Bond, Game Pass subscribers spend 20% more time playing games, play 30% more games, play 40% more genres and, crucially, spend about 20% more on gaming overall.

“The effect that we see is that people are playing on Game Pass, they're telling their friends: ‘hey come play this game with me’, they don't want another subscription, so they just go buy the game. We end up getting a ton of players on Game Pass, and we sell a ton as well.”

“The main thing for us is that sales didn't go down,” says Rose. “ You worry that you make the thing free and no one will buy it anymore: that didn't happen.”

People will keep trolling and casting doubts until they release numbers though. They are the only ones out of the three who keep hiding the financials and just do vague PRs. The only time you get the splits is when third party like Capcom decides to release their own financials. None of the other video/music streaming services hide their profit/loss numbers, which is how we knew they were all in a deep ditch until COVID hit.

Yea, those percentages aren't surprising when you're throwing a bunch of random games at people. They'll play more games in more genres than they traditionally would. Not exactly revelatory.

Also, we have hard evidence right on this forum that word of mouth does work. Just look at the GP multiplayer thread

Bold statement, but not completely true. It's misinformation or half information for the uninformed. Let's use Netflix and Prime Video as an example.

I could be wrong (likely not), but Amazon doesn't break out revenue for Prime Video.

Netflix doesn't publish per series or per movie revenue numbers, and their viewership numbers are a bit fuzzy.

And at the beginning of this year, Netflix switched to a new viewership metric. Netflix now counts a title as "watched" if you picked it to watch and let it play for two minutes. With some shows or movies, you can turn them off before you even hit the main title sequence and it still counts as a view.

And to be clear, I'm not suggesting we don't need numbers for game pass. Numbers are awesome and tell amazing stories. And would likely end a lot of the arguments here. I'm just pointing out the factual inaccuracies in the statement on streaming :D

Netflix has been profitable for some time now.

Yea, although they burnt a ton of money to start with.

I was more referring to per content revenue or performance. CC was talking about Capcom for instance. I doubt we'll get anything that detailed from Microsoft considering Netflix or Prime isn't transparent or granular about any of that either.

I don't know about the economics of it but GP is a good thing for gaming. I am playing (and finishing) a lot more games now. Plus, those MP sessions are gold.

As someone who likes to try a lot of games but finish/buy only the ones that appeal strongly, GPU is unbeatable. I have ended up buying games AFTER trying them on GP.

And all digital purchases. So, no reselling business to bring down cost.  And yeah, MP sessions with IVG crew is true cherry on top.

GP is the reason multiple ponies became Xbox players this gen.

Ank talking about buying Xbox coz of Game pass. So game pass only reason people care about Xbox now. MS can't back track or kill Game pass now unless they want to quit gaming business.

Companies get by on disclosing the bare minimum info to attract investors and meet regulatory requirements. They gain nothing by giving out more info than needed.

Yep. Bare minimum for either PR or regulatory uses.

Amazon does declare their revenue from Prime on top of member count. I'm not asking about individual series sales, they can't do that anyway because they don't sell them like gaming stores do. But every single time you hear a success story about GP, from MS or 3rd party, its always vague percentage numbers. How does Codemasters know their numbers jumped because of GP? I bought Dirt 5 on steam because it was 250rs last week, has nothing to do with subscription. It was 50% off for purchase elsewhere in 3 months, which is a lot faster than Dirt 4. And I bet it will never cross the lifetime sales number of Dirt 4.
