First party means you own the IP. This is why neither Titanfall nor Sunset Overdrive is first party. Spidey also isn't one, Marvel can hire someone to make another Spidey game once exclusivity deal is done. If you only counted who made the game then half of Nintendo games would not be first party, like Pokemon or Smash Bros.

titanfall and sunset overdrive are not first party as MS never owned the studios..they were just exclusives...

There is no second party, its only first and third party. Another example is BB being first party despite most of the work is done by Fromsoft.

Yes, "Marvel's Spider-man" which is their own version is owned by Insomniac/Sony. They explained it before, they don't own the IP or suits or villains etc, but they own this version of Spidey and their interpretation of all the characters, locations etc.

Unless Sony buys the whole league, they can't call it first party. Just exclusive licensing deal like EA has with FIFA.

seems like the 4 main components are developer, publisher, IP owner of the brand, IP owner of the interpretation - and they all can be different parties, which is causing the confusion. From what I understand, whoever owns the IP of the interpretation is the first party for that particular interpretation. 

 

So, basically, you can develop, publish and own the brand, but if someone else holds the rights to a particular interpretation, that particular version is their first party.

Obviously, pol are discussing MLB, a game developed by SONY First-party studio launching day one on gamepass, whereas ps5 owners have to pay 70$ to play it, that's crazy 

 

MS is kicking Sony's balls day in day out ever since they announced Bethesda acquisition. Now looking at third party big games like MLB and Outriders appearing day 1 on gamepass too, Sony will have to buff PSNow too, it can't continue like this for them.
