Movie Discussion Thread Vol. 2

Watched MI. Pretty decent fun. Lots of mansplaining of the story, dumbing down plot points for the audience. However, as expected, over the top action, and the last 30-40 mins are pretty insane.

Also, people who have to live magically live, those who need to die conveniently die. I felt the stakes were lower than many previous movies since you kinda know something will happen to save the protagonists.

Amazing action sequences.

There’s probably a reason why everything has an age limit. You shouldn’t be doing too many of anything. You shouldn’t be outlasting your age. Unfortunately most of us don’t realise in time. There’s TV shows that were great but stretched it on for one-too-many seasons. F&F has been doing the same with movies for about the last five.
MI: Dead Reckoning suffers from the one-too-many syndrome. It’s the weakest of the series. It’s the slowest of the series. It’s also the most uninspired, and that’s considering MI:5 and 6.
It’s not that pretty, though it’s not bad looking. It’s got some nice in-your-face perspective action and that’s the whole good.
Needlessly complex-pretend, it is not fun. There’s nothing new. You’ve seen the chases, the falls, the fights, the blasts. It’s repetitive not just with other movies, it’s repetitive within itself. There’s no feeling. No soul.
It feels like the makers entire spark came about by a singular thought: let’s make one more, go out with a bang.
This one’s phuss. Avoid.

F&F's whole shebang is family. For MI:DR it seems to be "trust". Someone should count how many times have they said this word in the movie.

The inherent plotline is major over the top, with the villian being you know who. Some of the plot holes are too much even for MI.

The last 30-40 mins are still nicely done IMO, but after Maverick, this is very hollow.

I think they just went with more of MI everywhere - too much running, too much hand to hand combat (which makes no sense even in such an OTT movie), and worst of all - too much explanation of the plot.

Me too kinda disappointed with MI 7 after Top Gun high. Apart from a fun car chase and the well done 'Uncharted' sequence in the end nothing else I remember from the movie. The much hyped base jump sequence was not that special compared to what the series has brought before. And so much of exposition dump for a barebones story at the end.

I would still recommend a watch especially after the ticket prices are a bit down because this is the kind of summer blockbuster that hollywood is rarely doing nowadays. Just a tame one compared to what Cruise is capable of.

John Wick 4 is still the best action movie this year.

To be fair though you will still find people who didn't get the plot lol..

What else is there for Part 2 apart from the one obvious target. Maybe there is going to be a Ethan Hunt flashback Indy style going by how much the story called back to Hunt's origins. Honestly speaking I am quite unexcited for Part 2. They need to have some really special trick inside their bag to make the series go out with a bang.

Consider this: first day, IMAX, so you know it's full of fans wanting the movie and the experience of the movie to be great. As the movie progressed, the energy in the hall deflated. The movie is too dull. The Uncharted train thing was the only memorable sequence, but even that has been done. My girl said this was there in Pathan too

The series peaked with Ghost Protocol, which I can still watch today. 5 and 6 weren't bad, but didn't capture the energy of 4. My guess is they were surprised with how well 4 did and decided to make a bunch more, trying to out-do themselves.

Hopefully they get some feedback with this and make the last one better, though I wouldn't count on it.

Cruise remains the biggest movie star on the planet.

MI: Dead Reckoning Part 1 was a blast. Yeah the plot is pretty bare bones but I wasn't bored one bit. It has everything what one would want from a spy movie. Insane stunts and chases, beautiful women(Hayley Atwell  , Rebecca Ferguson) and cool locations. The villain was eh but I like how much this reminded me of the first Mission Impossible(1996). Right from the dutch angles to some of the action.

Overall thought it was easily better than Fallout which felt like a slog at times.
