It a scene by scene remake. might as well watch the original which was released few years back. I was literally having deja vu when i saw the trailer of 2024 version.

There are differences: https://gamerant.com/speak-no-evil-2022-vs-2024-which-version-is-better/

Why didn’t India release it back then? This movie is the best depiction of Ramayan values and the story it conveys. Recently, I accidentally started watching the Fallout series again, and as soon as the first episode began, I realized I already finished the season. I don’t know why, but this kind of memory loss for movies and series has become very common for me lately. However, I still vividly remember the feeling when I first watched this movie with my grandfather—that’s how good the movie is.

Btw India always do such things, in Black Panther they edited out the "Glory to Hanuman" line.

It was released in Indian theatres. I saw it. It was shown for free as part of Hitavad Twinkle club for kids back in the day.

"The Hindi dub version was released in the late 1990s. Arun Govil, who is popularly known for playing the role of Rama in Ramayan (1987 TV series) voiced Prince Rama in the version. This film was distributed as a work in the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Diplomatic Relations between Japan and India. All India Distribution was by Kamal Hassan, Rajan Lall and Shringar Films.[11][12] The film was not released on a large scale as the Ram Janmabhoomi (Birthplace) Movement was at its peak and the movie made into controversy. But later it was released on TV channel Cartoon Network.[13"

Because of Ayodhya verdict etc going on that time it seems it wasn't released pan India.

Oh, I looked it up and you're right, the main reason is the ram janmbhoomi dispute at that time but some news website also quoted that VHP wasnt happy with the animation of ramayan, Of course, they might have seen it as just a cartoon. Back then, I don’t think animated movies based on gods were as common as they eventually became in the 2000s.

VHP actually later agreed and even supported them. It's the government that was scared to feature it across India. Anyways I hope after theatrical release it comes to OTT so that we can watch it anytime it want later.

Saw og Robocop after so many years. Man it still holds up. ost is something special. Highly recommended to anyone who hasn't seen it. Very nicely paced action with satire on society. Extremely well layered movie. It's leaving prime in 7 days along with its sequels and remake. No idea on which ott it will show up.

Joker: Folie À Deux is a major, major letdown.

The movie is a proper cash-grab attempt where you know it was supposed to be a one-off thing (the first movie), but the studio wanted a sequel anyhow coz the first one was such a hit, and Todd Phillips probably went like, "Well, I'm not keen on doing it, but let me waste your money anyway." Proper "Coppola being forced to make The Godfather 3" back in the day, kinda scenes IMO.

On to the movie itself - the choice to make it a "musical" is baffling, as it doesn't add anything to the story and the songs are a little too frequent. Even though Todd Phillips and Gaga denied it in interviews and stuff. Their thing was that "it's not exactly a musical...", but no... IT IS a musical, no 2 ways about it. The main characters dish out a song every 5-10 minutes.

I get Todd's point that "Arthur always had music in him" and all that, but I like how music was an extension of the character in the first movie (BG music and dancing sequences in the first movie). Unlike here, where it's just tacked on.

To clarify, I don't have a problem with musicals per se, but here it just doesn't help progress the story in anyway. It's a bold move (A+ for effort is the best I can say), that just doesn't land.

This is obviously not to say that there are no good things in the movie. The actors' performances, especially Phoenix, Gaga, and Gleeson, are fantastic and certainly S-tier, and I won't be surprised if they are in the Oscars discussion for this year.

The cinematography, set-pieces, costumes, make-up are all stellar and help set the world up in a very good way, after the events of the first movie.

But, the story and the overall narrative are just not there. Throughout the movie, I kept getting the feeling that this is a movie that's only based on the characters of the first movie. It's evident that Phillips wanted to show us what going on inside the minds of the characters (and what went through their minds during the events of the first movie) more than pushing the narrative forward in the amazing world he had built.

Folie À Deux is a disorder that means two people believe in the same delusions. To be fair, the movie does manage to get close to establishing that fact for the main characters. But, do not - I repeat... DO NOT go into this movie expecting more of the same like the first movie. It's a different take altogether and it may or may not land for you (it most likely won't).

My suggestion: watch it on some streaming platform whenever it lands on one. Don't waste your money, unless you really want to.

I am not even going to watch it for free and you went ahead and watched it on first day. The word of mouth is horrible and movie was dead the day it was announced as musical. The superhero movie audience and musical audience are drastically different with very little overlap, so wtf were they even thinking.

True but the first movie also wasn't a "superhero" movie in any way at all. Just a drama.

I have a problem with musical movies. They are mostly boring. Didn't know Joker 2 is a musical.

Didn't have any high hopes to begin with. First movie was good, but it was just a good well made movie, nothing more. I believe it was way overhyped! This was looking like a stretch from the start.
