There are lot of indirect factors too. Which doesn't have huge impact of their own but its significant if combined. I've noticed in my family members only, specially who are married. They dont want to go out in the city anyway, until its necessary.  Factors like pollution, traffic, uncivil people, not just in theatre but everywhere. Its like they want to keep thmslves away from the system as much as possible. Either they go on vacation out of station or they dont go out at all, and sometimes to their friends place. Home delivery services also made everyone lazy, even salon coming to yr doorstep.

I think the exorbitant cost of the multiplex theatres at least in cities like Bangalore doesn’t help either. For a family of four, I have seen that it costs almost like ₹2000-₹3000 for a movie outing in a shopping mall if you include snacks as well.

Also, I think people have become much more smarter thanks to exposure to OTT.  I think Aamir’s next movie (remake of champions) might meet the same fate as his previous remake of Forrest Gump!

Don't forget the food and beverage cost, which is a joke in itself.

I think it is a 6-8 week window. Theatrical experience is subjective, some want big screen experience irrespective of content, others want the content to be amplified through the big screen.

Mission Impossible, Avengers, KGF all fall into the latter.

People are more than happy to wait for other movies considering the premium Netflix charges.

There will always be movies people would go to watch. What has happened is that average to hit tag mpvies have reduced a lot. Now either movies are becoming big hits or completely failing. In-between movies have reduced drastically.

Saw Final Destination, was getting bored sitting alone at my hotel in KL and saw it was running in a theatre next to my hotel. Went blind with no expectations and without seeing any trailers. It is a pretty well made movie, with the usual FD stuff to kill people. It was a decently well spent 2 hrs.

Don't forget short form content consumption through reels and YT shorts. People have no reason to leave the house and  spend money on tickets  and travel on a below average /average film.

I swear the more premium the theatre, the more assholes you see who want to either talk among themselves or talk on phone thinking it's their drawing room.

I recently had a guy trying to flex on a group of girls, by having the great idea of talking loudly (like intentionally loud) and taking video calls in the middle of the movie. Just to flex he could do what he pleases. I had to finally ask him to speak softer, but that's not a pleasant experience when you are out to chill

Other times its crying kids that have been brought into A rated movies. OTT is far more convenient,  heck id even happily pay 500 to rent the movie at home

True but its not about movie being average. There are a lot of decent movies which would have earned much more before pandemic. Its just that people either want to watch a movie or they don't. That casual movie going crowd, which used to go to theaters and watch any semi interesting that is playing, has reduced drastically.

This happened today while I was watching  Final Destination.

Lady sitting a row behind me.Did not mute her phone, chewed loudly, spilled food and her drink on the server who brought it in. Yelled loudly on her phone about the incident. Had to tell her to stfu (nicely)

anyway, the movie was a lot of fun, some really good deaths

Anybody been to PVR recently? I saw Final Reckoning there and WTF happened to the sound? I don't go to theater that much now but I remember it used to be loud. Like really loud. I am pretty sure it's not the movie but rather the theater. Music was very low and took all the fun from main theme of MI movies. Dialogues were fine and clear but I think they have deliberately put the volume low in the movie. Ads were super loud though.

Reminded me of Sprite ad "Seedhi baat, no bakwaas" and role end credits.

Buy diet coke can or red bull that is usually sensibly priced (in context of everything else) also i prefer food instead of pop corn which also sells for price of gold.

Which one did you go to? DLF MoI has upgraded a bunch of stuff, better than Logix. Their IMAX also has better sound (no recliners though). PXL is also decent, and if you've money to splurge, Gold is the way to go.

Get an Easydiner Indusind card, pay via Eazypay. Get 25% discount unlimited number of times. DLF MOI accepts Eazydiner.

I always eat before going to mall for eating before movie or at worst order samosas. They are costly but not like popcorn.

City Pride chain in Pune is pretty decent so is esquare. Pvr, Inox etc have exorbitant prices.

Even I stopped going out to theatres. Only for AAAA movies like Avatar I will go.

Far more peaceful at home, way cheaper, variety of choices, and save money and time (i.e from getting stuck in traffic and buying unwanted stuff in mall)

It's a worldwide thing - Theatres are losing money.
