Movie Discussion Thread Vol. 2

Apparently one of the greatest Anime film of all time, Akira had been on my watch queue for a long long time.

I can't imagine the blood and sweat it took to create something so spectacular back in 1988. I'm assuming everything is hand drawn frame by frame.

Loved it, though sometimes the score did feel odd.

I really thought that the poor ratings are due to the ongoung nepotism debate :fear:

Same here, loved the first one and that even had the director's wife and actress' mother to add to the nepotism factor.

The best part of the movie were the flashback sequences from Sadak 1 in high definition.

Figures. Even a hanky is more effective than the Batman suit. Covers everything but the areas that need to be covered. Smh head.

Yup, they should revamp the Batman Suit. Add Jin's Sakai Mask or Ghost Mask to the ensemble and the costume is complete. Complete fool-proof protection.

The dialogues are really not audible in Tenet. Friend saw it at an IMAX and said the background sound and explosions were in much higher volumes. I remember having the same issue in Dunkirk, but that was a war movie so I could see what Nolan was going for. But in a movie like Tenet with so much exposition? Why

(Nolan Crosscut)

The Interstellar sequence he's talking about is is one of my absolute favourite sequences in any a/v ever. Right from when Mann takes Cooper with those wide, sweeping shots of a white-ish landscape, to the black guy dying in a blast, to them racing to the dock, to when Mann bungles it, and TARS docks with the ship while it's spinning like a top.

I must've seen it a hundred times, literally, as this was my final patch for HT auditions.

This sequence is breathtakingly beautiful, and the music is epic.

Watch Zimmer with a live orchestra, in Prague, absorbed in his craft, creating magic: No Time For Caution.

Apparently it's because Nolan likes to future-proof his movies and therefore he has decided to stop mixing his movies for substandard theatres long ago. So to him his movies sound great because he supervises them using the highest quality speakers in the world and everything in his studio is audible perfectly without any issues. Obviously you can't expect that to be recreated similarly everywhere around the world. It's a little arrogant on his part but I think he has earned it. Oh and he also likes his dialogue to be quiet so there's that too.

Additionally, I don't think the sound mixing in his movies on Blu-ray have any audible issue even if the dialogue is quiet and the action sounds bombastic.

I remember he was being a dick about this for TDKR too. Many complained about Bane's voice in the initial trailers. Then he begrudingly re-did it.
