Was it the monitor orientation that gave it away? :P

Actually based on using it for the past 2 days, I've to say that 32" is not really good for programming / working in general. The screen looks almost like a TV and it's very hard to browse/code or do anything at close quarters.  In my opinion, 27" 2k primary monitor and a 24" full hd secondary monitor is the best combination for software dev.

Disagree. Two 1440p monitors side by side is hard to beat :P That's what I use for my setup.

I actually want to get a third one to connect my mac, but will most probably get kicked out if I suggest this to my wife

are they 27" or 32" ?  two 27" should still be ok i guess, but instead better to use a ultra widescreen with the same amount or even less (unless you already had a monitor and just bought another one, like my situation).

Two 27'' of the same brand/model. Already had one and bought the second one.

Still not very convinced with ultra widescreen for coding but that's probably cos I havent tried it. Also two 27'' turned out cheaper than a 1440p ultrawide. Atleast in India.

I basically never alt-tab.

maybe it takes time to get used to, or maybe the width of my desk is less.   I plan to upgrade to one of those IKEA table tops once they open a store in blr.

Leave Ikea, sir. Those aren't sturdy enough. You can get a nice table made in bangalore. I got this one.

Gerton is plenty sturdy. Its the cheap Linnmon desk that you need to be cautious with.

Got it from a store called Alpha office systems. They used TiMotion Tek01 frame and electronics, and the table top was custom built by them per my specifications.

That setup looks neat, esp the cable management.... how much did it cost ?

actually i was looking at this hack that most devs use .... which is to essentially use a IKEA kitchen counter top with 2 alex drawers, like the below.  That kitchen counter top wood is supposed to be very sturdy :

above is a random image from google, the post where more details of the setup is here

Kitchen countertops aren't available in India from what I know (live in Hyderabad).

Also, Gerton is basically a piece of solid wood that you can use with Alex drawers too.

As someone who does not code, what is the advantage of having two monitors? Does it not take up a lot of space?

For programmers, it's pretty much essential at this point. Cos you'd want a window to run your code (in a browser/emulator/natively) and use the other for viewing the code in your IDE while debugging.
