Lol the amount of relief packages the Govts will have to give will be nothing compared to the cost of these vaccines

the govts will buy it happily

their reserves are going to run out anyway if this doesn’t stop by june-july

Bernie already asked Corona Medicine to be free, whenever it comes out.

Some people just don’t understand the market. They feel every corporation in the world has moral duty to give things for free, no matter how much they spend in RnD. One episode in Designated survivor captured this perfectly.

Competition helps innovation, the free lunches don’t last for long and second one always comes with Lauki ki sabji.

Guys based on a CNBC video, I reworked the EMIs for a friend who was thinking about opting in for the moratorium on a 20 year housing loan of rs 28,00,000.

I was shocked to find out that he will have to pay 15 additional emi’s after the expiry of the original tenure, to repay the 3 months interest added to the principal and the 20 year compound interest there on. I.e he had 3,96,000 rs as payable at the end of his original tenure.

Dont opt for moratorium on loans unless it is absolutely necessary.

It won’t be that much.

Additional interest will be 1.5 to 2x EMI

Here’s a calculator.

Indian Railways issues 'restoration plan' to prepare for resumption of services from 15 April after 21-day suspension

Sources said all railway safety personnel, running staff, guards, TTE and other officials have been told to be ready to join their posts from 15 April.  Trains, however, will begin operations only after a green signal from the government which had formed a Group of Ministers (GoM) on the issue.

All 17 zones have been sent a missive to be prepared to run their respective services, the source said.  Around 80 percent trains are expected to run as per schedule from 15 April which includes Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto trains. Local trains too are likely to begin operations.

Sources say the railways is likely to also conduct thermal screening on all passengers and follow all protocols as advised by the government.

Sources said a concrete action plan will be sent to the zones later this week.

Free for the consumer. The government will pay for them. If corporations get fair compensation for their costs, why should they complain whether the medicine is free or not? Even in civilised countries, where medicine is free or subsidised by govt, the pharma companies get paid for what they produce. The pharma company's job is to make enough money to keep running/growing, not drain the public of all their money.

As this pandemic has shown, health is a public issue, not a commodity.

If your friend is availing it, ask him/her to call the bank and confirm, take new EMI and Tenure change in writing or email, then only go for it.

good point but doesn’t cover some very important aspects.

when as a drug maker you take the subsidy from govt, you lose the right to set your price. You would be asked to stick to a certain pricing range, which is decided by their assumptions.
Either you have to rely on govt’s distribution channels or wait for reimbursements when done on your own dime. Why would any corp like this spend millions on RnD unless they have only philanthropy in mind.

There is no right to set price in India in the first place. Government already sets limits to prices.

There is no free market when it comes to medicines, especially life saving ones. Can you set a price on human life? In places with extreme capitalism, even generic stuff like paracetemol is sold at exorbitant prices. For patented medicines, there is a monopoly, and there can never be a fair price for those.

However, when government buys medicines from companies, it is a free market. Whoever can make the same medicine at the lowest prices will get the tender.*

*Not always the case due to corruption

I was not talking about India, I’m talking about US.

In India, there is no incentive for innovation in drugs, the patent is done on process to create the product, not the product itself.
So while it keeps cost of medicines low, there is no motivation for companies to come up with  new drug, because all its competitor has to do is find a way to create the same compound with different production method.

Yeah US has been hijacking planes with masks and medical supplies destined for other countries. They're just doing it with money instead of guns. Then they wonder why the rest of the world hates them.

They are scamming their own states too. National reserve of stockpile, is supposed to help states in such cases.

They denied it first but when they realised it is mentioned on official website they edited the page.
