Depends. But I dont think its possible to keep companies closed that long. As much as I'm afraid to go out or to work during Corona, I can understand the company's point of view. Cant pay salaries if they dont make money.

There are three types of companies in terms of debt. For example:

a) Any company with good cash reserves and minimal to medium debt is re-negotiating the existing moratorium period of their loan or have requested for a moratorium from their bank or consortium of lenders. The smarter companies are reducing salaries and incentives instead of letting people go; as in the long term it is more expensive hire new staff and train them (especially in specialised sectors).

b) Many debt free companies are neither cutting salaries or letting go of their employees, but, they have removed any incentives and bonuses for the foreseeable future.

c) Any company which is over leveraged is SOL and will need a white knight financier or investor. People in these companies will be let go; i.e Oyo, Uber, Ola, many in the textile industry, infrastructure companies.

This is The Great Recession; something our grandkids will be learning about in their history books and as a case study in their economics module.

Can we create a seperate thread to help people who have been impacted by the current situation? The help can be either providing financial assistance, advise i.e on their loans, EMI, etc., or putting them in touch with a contact who may be willing to hire people who have lost their jobs.

So, Karnataka has eased down some restrictions from today except in the hotspots n containment zones. But what zones are those and how are they classified? District wise, area wise etc..?

Area and ward wise.
They have announced areas / wards / roads and buildings with cases. Those areas are completely blocked.
In Bangalore right now they are 39 cases. Rural Bangalore 8.
Last 4 days, just 2 cases and from the same cluster.

The easing down of restrictions is good. Its not stupid n reckless.
Hopefully people will be more sensible.

I guess the real impact of the relaxation would be clear in the next 9-14 days (the incubation period of the virus). Right now, we cant term it as a success based on present infection rates.

Big Basket came to deliver fir he first time during lockdown we got a slot.

They said they will be making “no-contact” delivery. Don’t know TF that means

I went down the building to collect, with bunch of bags. Delivery folks weren’t wearing masks/gloves.

pissed me off totally.

I got my Big Basket delivery too today. Both the guys wore gloves and masks, they even sprayed my hands with sanitizer before handing away my stuff.

Same.

Have order multiple times from BB and Grofers since lockdown started. Every time the deliver guys comes and puts the stuff on the floor in boxes, stands back wearing gloves and masks.

And leaves when the order is collected.

Grofers is also sanitizing every product before packaging and then sanitizes the bag too, can smell it as soon as I open the bag.

@Right - Not sure of your scene, but having to go down to collect stuff may be a building / society mandate.

I have to go to our buildings main gate to pick orders up because the security won't let deliveries in. If your are unable to do that for whatever reasons (senior citizen, etc) the security takes delivery and gets it to you I think.

Ya that's society thing. Only security, residents and sanitation workers are allowed in the building.

But my problem was with no gloves/masks.

Same here. I am really thankful to Trump and his sh*t policies that my extension was rejected and I had to come back. Else I would have been there, working in NYC and living in NJ, both corona hotspots. It would have been a nightmare living there.

Covid might start the process of reverse brain-drain!

And most amazing thing is if we didn't have TJ clusterfk, we could've ended the lockdown with <10000 cases by now.

Earlier this morning I went to buy some medicines for my father (for high blood sugar, cholesterol etc.). The chemists we usually buy from didn't have any and we had to to wander around the city and check at 3-4 more before we found these medicines. I don't know how well medicine production and all related supply chains are operating right now but government needs to ensure that there is no effect on them due to lockdown.

Later went to a kirana store and was surprised and happy to see that fresh bread is arriving daily now. Unforunately baking ingredients like yeast, baking soda/powder, etc. weren't available so any baking plans in the immediate future would have to be put on hold.
