Right, so usually when going from 900p to 1800p, the gpu goes from pushing n pixels to 4n pixels. With the Medium, it’s pushing out 2n pixels but with the additional load of rendering a simultaneous dual world, which means that it must be pushing out  somewhere more than 2n pixels depending on the costs of dual rendering. It could even be more than 4n pixels  depending on the hardware architecture, method of its usage and rendering costs, who knows? So, there could be a chance that it’s rendering at or more than an effective resolution of resolution of 1800p

Is it really pushing 2n pixels? Seems like it's still pushing n pixels but decreasing the quality of each half to fit the full scene into n/2 pixels.

Too slow...Visual and audio is very nice but gameplay is total snooze. Walk around, interact, zzz. The performance also drops 20-30% when both sides are active.

Should have made co-op option. Each player taking care of each side like A Way Out.

Seems like I'm gonna skip this game. I couldn't even stand the games like Heavy Rain, this seems like another level boring.

Heavy Rain is still better. Has better acting cast and visuals. This is a total clunky AA level snoozfest. Glad it is free and i got to try it thanks to ration card.

there is a section where you switch character..was totally unnecessary and slowed down even more..

Just got through that section and I didn't think it was unnecessary at all. It was actually great considering that is where the story picks up from. It's getting really interesting now and pretty dark too.

The running animation was pretty funny though. It was like watching an old man trying to run in slow motion . I don't know why they went with that.

Anyone else really like the intro credits sequence? I don't see it having a lot to do with the game itself but it's pretty cool nonetheless :P

Yea, the intro credits and prologue were really well done!

This game clearly isn't for everyone, though.

It's more an adventure game very similar to Bloober's other titles, so that should've been the expectation all along. Has anyone played the Syberia series of adventures games? It really reminded me of that, perhaps because of the protagonist and the almost pre-rendered nature of the backgrounds.

I played the first two games way back when I was a kid. And yeah, this game has a similar look and feel. Although I remember the puzzles being much harder in the Syberia games. And I remember those games looking much better than what that screenshot suggests :P

There was also this other game called Still Life which was pretty similar and that I played around the same time. I loved that too.

This is true. I think that screenshot may be from one of the later games where they decided to try that new-fangled 3D graphics thing everyone's into all of a sudden :D

I remember trying Still Life but never got around to finishing it. Microids released a game based on the Blacksad comic series last year (excellent read if anyone's into comics). Very similar gameplay again. It's a very European style, and most small studios that specialize in adventure games are in Europe.

The closest Western US analogue would be the Telltale games, I guess.

Lol I think there is a catch.. when you see the white play button Hit A, it loads right away.. the loading screen is only the red butterfly.. just figured it out..  its fast.. its SSD its fast

Its unoptimized sh*t. SSD wont magically makes fast if optimization is so poor.. It takes longer to load than Valhalla and RDR2 on SX :P

Devs will be the best people to answer this.

With Doom Eternal, there are rendering modes like Retro, 8-bit etc which show a decreased quality render as compared to standard render but I believe that the engine still calculates the base render and does additional work of converting it into Retro, 8-bit etc. So, in Medium, it may be possible that the engine is calculating 2n pixels as raw reference and then doing additional work to decrease the quality of each half to fit the full scene into n/2 pixels.

The Medium gets a new update that completely destroys its in-game performance[PC]

Bloober Team has just released a new update for the Steam version of The Medium that completely destroys its in-game performance. Thanks to this latest update, the game is unable to take full advantage of high-end GPUs at lower resolutions. And while the game was running with 80fps in our benchmark scene, it’s now running with 50fps in the very same scene and with the same settings.
