Santa Monica - GOW Ascension (2013) to GOW 2018 - 5 years , GOW 2018 ( April 18) to GOW Ragnarok ( Q3 2022 est) - 4.5 years . 

Cory himself said they didn't want to tell a story in 15 years hence they are concluding Norse saga in 2 games instead of 3 games .

I understand it takes a hell lot of time to make a game from ground up . So not a criticism but more of a wish

ND released 3 Uncharted games in 4 years 

 

& SSM themselves released 4 GoW games in 8 years (3 in 5)

 

Prior to that games like POP & many others were getting annual releases 

 

It’s just that the more debth & fidelity that is brought in with technology brings in more expectations from gamers & lifelike experiences from creative minds 

 

That’s why gaming is getting expensive too

It was 5 years between ascension and New gow because they scrapped a whole game in between.. There was never a gow planned till Cory came up with it. We may get next one sooner coz from what it looks like from Cory's tweet is they are already working on the next one..

Game development time and budget will continue to increase as long as photo realistic visuals are given more emphasis ,which is to be expected with such powerful hardware.

GOW Ragnorok is said to be about 40 hrs long. It should finish the story no problem.

 

ND games are smaller. Also they have multiple teams. So they are able to churn out a game in about 3 yrs. Same for Insomniac.

 

I personally prefer games that are big and varied. Like Psychonauts 2. They can take 5 yrs to make if needed.

Even GoW 2018 was a pretty lengthy game when all of the side quests are included (not counting the two arena realms & Valkyries) 

 

Side quests were also pretty good & most felt almost like main quests (set pieces aside)

Also, game output has decreased for pretty much most AAA devs during PS4-X1 gen, and it will continue to get longer, as the games get more detailed by the day.

 

Only one AAA dev still consistently shits out rock solid games at a fast rate even now, FROM SOFT!

Yeah ofc i understand game development time and budget has increased significantly from previous gens . 

But longer time gaps between games also mean you will be 10 year older by the time you finish 3rd part of a AAA trilogy 

For those in mid 1980's like me - we will get to play God of war Egypt 3rd part in our 50's at current rate

There has to be some kind of trick that Insomniac doing to load games instantly on PS5 . Its instant even when you launching from main menu

Yeah . Ascension bombed and there were layoffs after that . It was a tremendous achievement by the studio to come up with the masterpiece that was GOW 2018 in the position they were in at the time .
