For games with servers in India, I don't get more than 20 ms latency. Seems pretty workable as long as they can set up server farms near major metros.

Not out of the realm of possiblity for it to be launched in near term considering Azure has servers here already. Obviously it'll need specialised hardware but still.

I meant when and if they launch Xcloud. Considerable risky investment.

Xcloud can totally take off here. Most people I know have a tangential interest in gaming but not interested in the upfront investment and expensive games.

This, huge risk without knowing the outcomes. Also TBH playing console games on mobile kill the experience.

Even if they offer gamepass for free with every xbox purchase (even for one year).

Practically speaking they are already doing that.

M$ can only make a big dent if their exclusives shine(like you said) or if their cloud streaming strategy works out like it did for other mediums.

(but didn’t for Sony & Google & both failed to make a difference)

There is a big chance that it just might.

But yeah it’s a huge huge risk right now & only they could have afford to take this ,out of their dying desperation.

That and some people I know who play pubg on mobile, do so using the mobile mounted to the controller.

Most of the ppl whom I know who do it are doing it outdoors or on the go.
Not in the comfort of their homes & high speed Fibernet.

Most of the “homely” ppl are still on PC or Consoles.

Either way there is no denying that it could be the future……it’s just that there is no denying that it could take far longer to become mainstream than M$ is banking on.

I personally would never play anything competitive on the cloud no matter the situation. Single player games though? Sure.

Most of the casuals are sp gamers anyway.

What I believe that right now & in the considerable near future this thing is going to be an added benefit for the core gamers on this ecosystem rather than a medium that attracts a larger demographic.

If you consider the prices for the current devices like Laptops,TV’s & Mobil phones(something that M$ is targeting) then consoles aren’t really that expensive in comparison.

Someone who buys these gadgets can easily afford a console if he ever feels the need to enter this form of entertainment.

Wii was considerably more successful in bringing that crowd into their ecosystem because it did something that was friendly & easy to get into.
As soon as the hype & freshness was gone these ppl didn’t try to stick around & try to take the traditional controller in hands, they just left.

The rise of touchscreens brought more such ppl into the medium of gaming & they are quite keen to try new games but I doubt these ppl will give the traditional controller a try.

With the “proposed” rise of VR & Metaverse…..the controller crowd might just be the core 200m crowd that has lived on & on over generations.
Everyone else might just go to VR rather than controllers like they went to wiimote before leaving.

Personally, I would consider getting xcloud just to play some of the single player games that might go exclusive to Xbox in the future, granted it's playable and ping isn't too bad.

cloud is totally dependent on the base infrastructure the government/economy of a country provides.

Presently cloud gaming is not lag free even in the US.

I don't see it going mainstream anytime soon.

My bet- vr and 4k would become mainstream faster/earlier than cloud gaming.

And....

You would never get a true 4k experience on smartphones due to the real estate, or the lack of it.

Ps- I think cloud gaming would work only for super casual games. Which don't demand that much of your attention. Cloud gaming "enhances" the ease of gaming. Not the experience.

Errrrr...open your eyes, or better, Play Store. Hard to find anything decent which is not freemium.

Heck, my mom has 100s of Candy Crush clones on her phone, and God knows what's getting hacked and tracked.

I think she spends more time playing mobile games than me playing on consoles.

I read that in the 90s many women bought the gb DMG to play Tetris. Reminds me of that.

However story driven games won't work well in this model I guess.

How ? Tell me the way to free GP, sensei.

They are charging you just for XBLGold & giving you entry to GP for free.

This offer is only valid for first three years.
So not very different penetration strategy than giving you 1 year for free.

Practically speaking.

Still not free. We are spending nearly 7k for these years.

I agree it's all about getting you in, but a lot can happen in those 3 years. Will have to wait and watch.

But the masses don't care for such games. Convenience trumps everything.

Millions of people play Witcher on Switch. The graphics are sh*t, but convenience rules. Easy, portable, available (mostly) anytime.

That's why the future is cloud gaming. Device agnostic.

So.. not free entry. But heavily discounted entry.

Hence the need for me to use the word “practically” in both my posts.

If we both be real & see it for what it is.

It’s achieving practically much more than a free 1 year followed by 800-1.2k a month.(depending on region)
