The Playstation 5 thread

Honestly, it doesn’t make any massive difference.
I’m forced to use one console on Hdmi 2.0 as my Tv only has one hdmi 2.1 port and I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference if someone switches both the ports.

Games that support 120 fps mode in 4K are so rare and in the last 2 years, there have been no meaningful applications.

The other advantage is, hdmi 2.1 will be able to output RGB signal in HDR, whereas 2.0 switches to Yuv422.

Honestly, no idea what it means but people just buy 2.1 coz that’s what YouTubers recommend for PS5/xsx.

For regular unpatched games I agree the difference is not very big.
It was always over hyped by the Xbox camp all along.

But the games that have been officially patched & making use of double or even triple frame buffer thanks to 120hz inbuilt software support, the difference is significant.

Insominiac is doing some next level wizardary.

But apart from that every game that has been patched is running significantly better too.

Also the games that ran 50-60 fps like Elden Ring,RE8 will also benefit at some level for sure.

It's funny you call it overhyped while also calling the difference significant.

I said it was overhyped at launch on Xbox as some sort of game changing advantage over PS5.

But as things went by the realisation came that the hardware supported VRR & LFC was actually no where close to to the software supported one, where the developer in his software is giving a double or even triple frame buffer to make use of the 120hz screen & remove any sort of stuttering.

It’s only recently that even Xbox versions started to get official software patches to make proper use starting with Dying Light 2.

For eg. at launch DF hyped how Xbox’s VRR support will benefit underperforming games in comparison to PS5:-

But in actuality it was never giving any significant VRR support unless the developer supported it through a software patch:-

LMAO.

What is hardware supported and software supported VRR?

There is no such thing. VRR means variable refresh rate. That's exactly what it means and does. There is no scope for hardware or software level support for it.

As for 120 hz mode, doing it at system level means even 30 fps games feel super responsive. On my new monitor i have been constantly playing 30 fps games. Not even once have i noticed or complained about it.

Even my usual test method of barely touching analog sticks to move camera has failed. It responds similar to how 60 fps game would behave.

Then why the f**k games like DMC on Xbox ran like dog sh*t in terms of stuttering if hardware level VRR was enough.

& magically when it got patched by developer on PS5 it removed all stuttering all the time it stays in VRR range of 48-120fps.

Just think about it.

PS5’s VRR range is 48-120fps but still software induced LFC is doing wonders for Insomniac games in fidelity modes.

Software level VRR/LFC will always be miles ahead of hardware level VRR enabling which even PS5 does now with its second VRR on/off toggle on games like Elden Ring.

As for 120hz ALLM on locked 30fps or 60fps games….that’s got nothing to do with FPS/VRR/LFC
& many ppl say it makes no difference.

Some games favour xbox in terms of VRR performance. One game isn't enough to draw any conclusion.

Insomniac unlocked the frame rate and suddenly it became such a huge thing, a feature that's working on xbox since forever LMAO.

I have no complaints regarding VRR on Elden Ring or Guardian of the Galaxy both which run at unlocked frame rate.

Because the framerate on XSX swings wildly on DMC5 over a larger range

while the framerate on ps5 with spidey is relatively tight range and easily smooth-able

Any way to make sure you get the console with the updated controller? Also any dates in terms of the next sale?

There's no option to choose which version you want.  You will get what Sony is currently supplying here

The PS5 i have was purchased in March and came with updated console controller.  Another user here who got PS5 in April also got the updated versions only . Sony is shipping only the newer models now I believe.

Considering there was a drop yesterday . Next drop should be in June .
