The Playstation 5 thread

Came across a tweet earlier where Sony replied to a guy saying "It's upto the dev". So I am not sure.

The MM disc mention "Licensed for sale in Europe, India and Russia". So it's an error where the DLC is not marked with the same region.

Hmm, interesting. The PSN pages must be self-service for developers and publishers to populate and publish listings, but my assumption was/is that because the game is first party, Sony must have a central team that handles store publishing - both for consistency and cost.

Mine also has some coil whine, but it hasn't bothered me as much as you seem to be saying. Maybe the noise is lesser in my machine. But yes it's definitely audible when game sound is low or if the tv is on mute.

I'll eventually get used to it, my playing distance from TV is quite short which worsens the problem.

I think its the low pitch which makes it annoying, my PS4 had this fan noise but the pitch/frequency? wasn’t annoying to hear. Same with the PC fans, the one from PS5 is rather irritating. Difficult to explain unless you’ve heard it yourself.

I need to import HDMI 2.1 extractor from Astro so that my mixamp and headphones work with PS5.

Impressions so far:

  • FIFA 21 looks so good and its so smooth damn, didn't expect the next gen to be so good. Loving it so far and the faster menus is the best feature lol. However, noticed the PS getting quiet warm after this, but not sure if its because of a change of location for the PS or its the game. Had bought the same game for PC sometime back and the difference is night and day.
  • Tried TLOU, RDR2 and drive club mainly and so far console doesn't get hot as such, but is still slightly warm, nothing out of the ordinary imo
  • Tried warzone for a few minutes, haven't given it a proper go yet.
  • Using 4-5 year old ds4 analog grips with the dualsense and it fits well. Might get something dualsense specific though soon.

Bugs/Issues:

  • Noticed that DS4 keeps disconnecting. Tried playing tlou and rdr2 using it and it kept disconnecting, with me having to connecting it back using the usb cable. Even when connected, the headphones start muted. Not sure if my controller is malfunctioning or is the PS the issue. Has anyone tried DS4 with ps5 yet? I have the DS4 v1 controller, blue colour.
  • Unsure about coil whining, thought I heard something one day but unsure if it was from the power outlet or within the PS. Will also look to see if I can hear the fan.
  • Not really a bug but the disc rotating noise is high compared to the PS. PS has so far been dead silent and thus the disc noise is even more audible.

Overall loving it so far! The adaptive triggers scare me as I can hear the clicks inside the dualsense when playing fifa so disabled it for now. However, its an insane feature!

I think 3D audio doesn’t work through hdmi. You will only get stereo audio.

Played 4-5 games yesterday on PS5, first impressions-

I played Demons Souls, Spiderman remastered, last of us 2 and ghost of tsushima. Demons souls looks very good in fidelity/cinematic mode but the 30fps just doesn't work on an OLED (I have a LG C9). Feels very juddery and I've never been a person to whom frame rate mattered much. The 60fps mode is too blurry. I sit very close to the TV so the blurriness is very clear to me.

Last of us 2 and ghost both were underwhelming in graphics department. Mostly because how soft and blurry they look. I know they are not full 4k and only PS4 pro games but I thought this checkerboarding upscale game was almost as good as real 4k? No?

Before PS5 arrived, I was playing Assassins creed valhalla on my PC. The crisp 4k >60fps HDR has me spoiled. It looked SO GOOD and was so smooth. Granted its a pretty beefy PC (3080, 5600x) but because of that I am really underwhelmed by my PS5. Valhalla remains my best next-gen experience so far.

So I guess expensive PC justified, if I look at the silver lining.

I absolutely second this. After playing RDR2 maxed out on a 3070 at 1080p, the PS5 game visuals seemed a bit underwhelming for me. So far, I've tried, SM remastered, Miles and opening sequence of GoT.

Fifa21 was fantastic though, but that's probably because of the nex-gen version.

But now, got used to the PS5 though. And since I sold off the 3070 and stopped playing on PC mostly, so it's not jarring anymore..

Bhai kaise compare kar rhe ho, ek jagah 50k ka system and doosri jagah 50k ka gpu.

Ps5 or any console for that matter is for the comfort, pre-selected presets and more importantly, exclusives.

Even I have a tiny bit of coil whine. It's not even audible when playing a game (with headphones or earphones), it's only audible when you put your ears close to the console. Even then it's not present all the time

I agree. Personally it doesn’t bother me at all...Infact after listening to the sound i wondered what all that fuss was all about.

I anyway sit about 6-7ft away and would mostly have headphones while playing so I don’t see it as an issue. Luckily my dogs are also not bothered with the high pitched sound so all’s well [emoji869]

How has your experience been with running ps4 stuff off an external?
I am thinking of getting a dedicated 2 tb external for ps4 stuff, i dont wanna fill the internal storage up

Runs perfectly. Haven faced any issues. However if you want better loading times then install on the SSD. Personally speaking, I would prefer to run them from the hdd as the extra space on the console > loading time speed boost for me.
